PAIR Mod one or both hoses?
05/16/14 2:48 PM

2012 ZX14R I have totally torn it apart already, doing lots of mods all at once. I want to do the pair mod also, but there's two large hoses running from the valve into the air box, which one needs to be blocked or do they both need to be blocked off?

Only block off the one on the clutch side. How are you blocking it?

I used a marble with a zip tie on either side to keep it from moving.

I have a red plastic cap, but I can go to the hardware store and get a round plastic plug (like Rook's tutorial) if it's necessary. What does the right hand side hose do if the left one is all you need to block from the PAIR?

I'm not entirely sure. But I know that of you do block that other hose, bad things will happen.

The other hose is the fresh air supply for the Idle Control Bypass Solenoid. If you block it your scooter will be supremely unhappy at an idle.

That red cap I gave you is the one that Brock gives out with his exhausts. Pop it into the airbox where the hose was then cut the hose so it has a flush edge and pop it back into the cap in the box. It's all you need for the mod.

I think I've got her figured out then. I've cut the left side hose straight with a razor, and I put the plug on the now smooth end. Then I jammed the end of that sucker into the bottom of the airbox and called it done. Well see how that affects the bike once I get this all put back together.

Thanks again Corn for the plug! And to you guys for the assistance. Wonder how I'll be able to contain myself with all sorts of new goodies, this will be like a totally different bike! First ride all over again ;)

Just a question on the same topic.
Firstly I changed to 4-1 exhaust on my 2014 model. I got no backfire but got a rumble on decel. (On my 2009 I removed the whole pair set up, joined the two air inlets with a single pipe and blocked the the air box hole. This removed the rumble and reduced the backfire to a single pop at 3500rpm)
Now I tried the same thing on my current model and the orange engine light coming on. I re-assembled the pair set up and put just the marble in the pipe under the airbox. The engine light went out but the rumble is still there. is this something I have to live with in place of the backfire?

I would appreciate if anybody can shed some light on the subject.

Believe your gonna have to live with it
I've been searching how to eliminate all but it looks like it's not possible with the 14R... That rumble/gargle is getting on my nerves as well.! On my zx10 I removed all that shit and all was fine :/
