Has anyone bought a pair of sunglasses that were prescription lenses and polarised glasses, only to find out that the visor on your helmet reacts with the UV or polarising on the visor and turns other reflections purple .

Is there a way arround this

thanks

Run a clear lens not coated with UV? Run painter's tape over the top of the lens to run head down on sun up or on sundown.

thanks hub, tried to find a Shoei XR 1000 clear around here, and they say, all Genuine clears now come UV treated.

will try a strip on the top of the visor as a block,

do you know of any manufactures that make a clear visor with out the UV

just spent a fortune on these glasses , got them today, new nothing about polarizing and UV interference.

cheers

Wow you might be unable to find faceshields without UV protection these days.

I have photochromatic lenses or whatever they are called, so my glasses darken automatically. And they have some UV built into the lense material. So when I ride, if its really bright, I push the lever on my C3 and the dark inner visor slides down. That seems to be enough.

Back in the day, when there was not a world wide web, motorcycle geeks hung out in netnews aka uucp aka usenet, which was basically a client on your desktop computer that connects to a news server, and downloads messages in the topic you are subscribed to. The news servers had a hierarchy by which a new message posted locally would get propogated all over the world in seconds. It was rocket science at the time.

The motorclists' main netnews group was rec.motorcycle and eventually there was also a rec.motorcycle.harleydavidson.

One time I got a new pair of polarized sunglasses with UV block etc. and was posting about wearing them inside my Shoei helmet. You would not believe the rash of shite I took because all those old-school guys thought wearing sunglasses inside a full face helmet was a very bad thing. Turns out in an accident, those sun glasses cut your face up quite often.

Well, heck, I guess I knew that. At the time, I wore contact lenses when I rode. And tinted shields in the late 80s and early 90s weren't too effective.

Now I wear glasses and I guess I'll just have to not crash.

Won't help with a presciption, unless you wear contacts, but I use a $3 pair of smoked safety glasses from home depot. They're cheap, do a decent job on the sun, are very thin and fit easily in a full face helmet, and as safety glasses are shatter resistant in the event of an accident.

Thanks everyone, Looks like the $800 dollars I just spent on glasses was a brain fart, had no idea that this problem exists.
Took my helmet in to the optometrist and tried different pairs did the hole thing, got the prescription lenses just wright. but never went out side with the helmet on, they never told me that this is a world wide problem with polarising .

If you know anybody, that wear prescription glasses and you hear they are going to get prescription sunglasses do them a favour and give them the story.

Thanks everyone

Seno, have never tried contacts not sure how I would go,

For an Up date of this, I have gone back to the optometrist and told them the bad news and they rang the manufacture and they offered to replace the lenses with non polarising lenses for free as they should of warned me.
Got the new glasses today, went for a quick ride and they appear to be fixed , will give it a blast on the week end I think all will be great.

Always wondered about contacts, might try them one day
