Fairing stay bolts after 2012
09/22/14 8:50 PM

Many including me had issues with the fairing stay bolts coming loose or falling out on the 2012 14r. I thought I remember reading somewhere mother Kawasaki started loctiting or lock nutting those bolts on the 13s. Has any one lost a bolt on the 13s or 14s? Anyone have a picture of the (?) changed nuts?

This was the only problem I had on my 2012 but it sure messed with the alignment of all the fairing pieces when the bolt fell out. May be bringing a 2014 home this week.

Those stay bolts have been known to fall out or loosen up...I don't think Kawasaki loctited those...you can if if feels better doing that.I checked mine right after reports started coming in.They both took about another turn to tighten up.Since then...no loctite...no looseness...I've got over 17K right now...still secure.

Should have done a little checking before posting. The part# for the nuts on the 2012 &2013 is the same, the part is changed for 2014.

So let's ask a different question. Has anybody had the bolts loosen on a 2014?

Are you talking about those little acorn nuts up by the steering neck? Mine have always been tight. Don't overdo those, that part is plastic. Only fairings screws I ever lost were the bottom ones on the lowers and the back ones on the fender. The one on the left in the bottom of the cone shape and the one on the right on the top rear in the sode fairings comes out too but those will remain inside the fairing until you take it off. I locktite all the fairing screws that do not have a well nut.

Yes Rook, that's the ones. There were many reports of them loosening or falling off all together on the 2012s.

Mine weren't loose, but I loctited them anyway. Which reminds me, I should check them again since its been apart.

On mine they were all different levels of tightness from either the factory or dealer. I also had quite a few bolts that needed re-torqued at the initial service. Since going over and checking for tightness haven't had any loose bolts.
