I saw the SSB that showed those super coils and coincidently when I rode to Ivan's a couple of weeks ago I mentioned them to him. His feeling is that they were all hype, and for $750????? 6HP & 2TQ... Keep in mind, SSB has been advertising Takai coils in the back for some time, and a Dyno operator can "massage" the numbers a bit.... In my opinion Takai was not getting any business from their advertising, bitched to SSB. SSB then threw them in a feature article to drum up some advertising dollars and keep an advertiser....

Was my thinking as well. Full sidewinder pipe with fueling #'s seemed real low,,,, Next run gave all the credit of power gains to the coils maybe. Myth Buster sure would be nice ???? Rofl you first lol. (Just kidding net you have to say that) I would sure love to know if was BS.

Ivan, I was just reading a article in SSB with re guards to performance upgrades tested on the 2012 14R. The Brock TiWinder with fueling via Bazzaz, gained six hp(seems real low). Ok that's not so interesting but what grabbed my attention was the test on the Takai Supercoils. The guys gained 6 more hp and 2ftlbs of torque,,,,, from a coil ?

That's huge,, Would love to see that test on your set up,,,,What your thoughts.

750 Dollars ? They brag Made more power than the pipe and the Bazzaz at 1/4 the cost ?????

I find it very hard to believe that there are much improvement(s) to be made to this bike's ignition system through a hotter spark..... I wouldn't buy them to test.... maybe if I saw a test done from someone that I knew personally and trusted.

Kinda reminds me of the magic tablets that used to be advertised in Popular Mechanics magazine that if you drop them in your spark plug holes, that it would "put a special coating the cylinders" and fix the oil consumption issues by putting back the missing metal from 200,000 miles of wear.

These little cuties are now installed in brothers 109R. 10 km and big smile. He beat me to it lol Here is a few pics

Seat of the pants is too subjective.

An M109R's cylinder/head combo is very different than a ZX14's small bore/fast burn design.

Those giant pistons and large combustion chambers could possibly benefit from something like this..

I have a set of them for testing .. I'm going to test them back to back , same day at the track ..I have 200 runs of data on my ZX14R so if there is anything to be had from this coils i will see it .. After the first test is done i'll add some fuel to the map and see if these hotter coils can burn the extra fuel .. Keep in mind i'm already running 8.40s so gains are most likely going to be small if any.. But in my case i'm looking for hundredths of a second .. You do 2 or 3 mods that gain hundredths of a second each and they start to add up to tenths and not hundredths .. 750 bucks is big money for a few hundredths of a second.. Most guys would never need or even feel gains but a few guys like me that are looking for every bit HP we can find without opening up the motor these may help ..

I feel as Ivan does , that the factory coils are very good to start with .. I will tell you something i found looking at the factory coil on my bike ..Pulling off the lower boot on the plug to get a look at where the coil plugs onto the spark plug i found a lot of tracking , meaning leakage of spark where it hooks to the spark plug ..That waste means it's not getting full power to the plug .. I was surprised to see this tracking .. It's something i have seen years ago on the old GM HEI system when GM first came out with the HEI.. I have not seen this on the new coil on plug style system ..The Takai coil looks to have a better gold plated fitting to the spark plug ..Maybe tracking and spark waste will not be a problem with the Takai coil ..Time will tell ..

I was told about these coils from the Vmax guys ..One of them i see at the track all the time , he did pickup ET and MPH with the coils and is very happy with them .. Other Vmax owners that don't race have picked up MPG with these coils ..They claim easier starting also ..The new Vmax is slow to start cold or hot and the coils helped this .. Snake oil ? Maybe ? .. Well they help the ZX14R ? Maybe ? ... I'll know in a few weeks ..

Ford Mod. motor COP are notorious for jumping fire/tracking.I slather the boots with dielectric grease outside and a big dollop for the inside of the boot before I push it onto the plug buried in the head.

Look forward to your post. If the add brags holds up with 6hp all good,,,, even if we only get a slight improvement it's something,,,there must be some gain ???? Flat out lie????? which is possible, but is not expected,, after all the money they have spent on adds. They wouldn't would they ???? Dyno from some one here would be nice,,,,,

Romans , He also sent me a set of untested coils ( proto types ) ..These new coils are for much higher RPMs than our ZX14R will ever see or use .. May be good for a ZX10 or a bike that revs to 13500 or more .. But he said i could try them and see what happens .. I'll test them at some point after i get done with the first set he sent me ..

Romans , no i didn't get any plugs to test nor do i know any thing about them .. I did find that the Vmax Gugu sells the coils for a bit better price on his website .. 6.74.99 Vs 750.00 ..

6 hp is a big claim and something you could feel with your butt dyno for sure .. May see 6 HP with remapping but 6 hp just swapping them out ? Not sure about that one ..

Romnas i just looked at the link to the plugs .. Hummm looks like an NGK to me ..It could be better , at 10 bucks each it not for off the price of the factory NGKs we use now .. Might be worth a try at that price .. Did you see the ones at the bottom of the page 50.00+ each !! Now you better get some HP at that price or i'd be looking for some ass to kick .. lol.. One thing i have learned over the years racing a building engines is , you never say never till you try it for yourself .. But i have to say i have never tried that Valve job in a can shit ...:) But a better spark plug , that is possible .. Just look at what we used 30 years ago to what we use today ..
