Rider Down....
05/29/15 2:24 PM

Hello all.....

A friend of mine had a bad get off at Road Atlanta this past weekend during a STT track day. The short version is he hit a wall that was unprotected at an estimated 100mph. He was taken via helicopter as he was unconscious and unresponsive. The good news is he became responsive and CT scans revealed no brain damage....the horrible news is that he shattered his T11 and T12 vertebrae and doctors are fairly certain that he severed his spinal cord as well. He has no feeling below his waist and doctors have told the family that he has less than a 3% chance of ever walking again. To say his family and his friends are numb and saddened beyond belief is a gross understatement.

I know that none of you know James but I can tell you that he really is one of the nicest guys I've ever known. Do anything for anyone without hesitation. Obviously James and his wife are entering uncharted territory and in addition to the life changing injury they will be assuming a very large financial burden. The helicopter ride alone was $20,000.

I ask that you follow the link below and donate if you can...no amount is too small....and I can tell you with certainty that if I sent this same link to James about any rider out there he would donate to the cause without question...he's that type of guy and that type of friend.

Thank you in advance and everyone ride safe.

Troy

ugh, Sorry to hear this. Hopefully 3% chance is all he needs and he will walk soon.
I tried to use your link and had no luck, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get it to work. Can someone fix the link or help me get through. Thanks

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

Thanks to everyone that has been able to donate and for keeping James in your thoughts.

Sport Bike Tracktime (STT) is doing a benefit track day for James in a few weeks....don't know if this would interest anyone as a ZX14 at little tally would be....um, tiring :) but here is the info none the less.

https://www.sportbiketracktime.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=494

Thanks again to everyone and be safe.....

Update: Sad news from the fund website via email

"Friends, supporters, family.... I have very sad news in this update."

From Mary: "Just got some unfortunate news from James's neurosurgeon. The membrane surrounding his spinal cord was torn and is leaking spinal fluid into his chest. In order to repair the leak, they neurosurgeon has to tie off the spinal cord just above the leak. He will be paralyzed from just above his navel down. There is no way that James will walk again."

Another update from the site:

"HOPE!!

From Mary: I made an executive decision today. James will not be having surgery tomorrow. Instead, they are going to place a lumbar drain which will hopefully decrease the pressure of the fluid and allow the tear to heal. I'm not ready for him to do something permanent until there are no other options."
