map question
03/18/14 8:00 AM

good morning, I have a power commander 5 and had a nice map then changed my counter sprocket to a 18 from stock.

the map i had was spot on except for it called for a +2 rear sprocket which i did not have , but it worked and ran fine.

BUT when i slapped the 18 on I got a amount of surging is the best word for it at lower speeds/ rpms but fine higher up.

Now my question.

Does the computer take the sprockets into play like that? Or do I have bad gas?
I say this because I slapped a better map to it and i still have the same issue but maybe not as bad.

This is still the same tank of gas and i have not tried to reinstall the better map again (maybe it did not take)

Peace and Love Ron

I say this because I slapped a better map to it and i still have the same issue but maybe not as bad.

1. I changed a lot here so I better go right back to stock and see if this clears things up.
2. I can't have bad gas if I changed a map and it's not as bad now. Get it? Not bad gas.
3. I had another map that was spot on but changing the sprocket is whacking my truth tables with more speed at the ratio change.
4. I have a lower end issue that needs some mapping at those cells.
5. I have a fueling issue because I am fighting two truth tables. One laid out motherboard, are those [very few] chips in the pc and the [many] chips in the ECU. If I remain stock, my one set of truth tables in the ECU might just eliminate this surge. But since I am changing cell moves, these turn the tables of truth to the "Best" the tables can math to. We are tabling a whole different map change in the pc.
6. I think the hubbish is saying there are two processes going on and you just don't 'slap' tables (cell changes) at a snowflake. How many mods to the bike are from stock? Ah, a new snowflake so you have to match flake for flake, mod for mod, cell for cell.
7. I think hub is 'slapping' me to wake up to a certain tuning procedure is match watt snowflake wants. I cannot off the shelf slap this bottle fed map to the injectors. I need a home grown formula specific to the mods of my baby. I +2'd a 1+ move.
8. I better not call out for the Joe-Blow Remedy, "Help, I need a map" because it's not going help.
9. I know watt to do when NOLTT...
10.

my question was simple does a map have a field for a gear change in it? I have never played with them this is my first computer controled bike and i do not like and need all the down low power this thing puts out right now. so i changed from stock 17 to a 18 counter sprocket. It feels much better now and my gas mpg is up. The only reason I mentioned the map /gear question is the map i was using had a listing on it that stated +2 rear sprocket. I never though the computer that controled the engine would have anything to do with the sprockets. hence the whole question. does one effect the other.

If not i have another issue.

your above statement did nothing but confuse me.

Yes.

http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/products/powercommanderv/powercommander_v.aspx

Gear input (allows for map adjustment based on gear and speed)

Someone might chime in, but if you raise a gear up front, it's like 2 less teeth at the rear. That's why your mileage is better = Less RPM spins per minute.

Trans vs. Load = When the car has the A/C running, heads up a hill, the vacuum load changes, alters ignition, turns off the A/C. Less load> the A/C comes back on again. Same principal occurs... think 'Load Based.'

[q]I have never played with them this is my first computer controled bike[q]

This is a different animal. Get acquainted with the terms of the processing the bike does so you can understand/diagnose how the bike functions.

Hence,

NOLTT

I need more and you need less.

Keep the flies in, keep the 18 tooth on. Your wrist is the power giver and takeith away. Hard to detune a thoroughbred.

#5 = I changed the map and all is well. WATT did I say? I said the gasoline was not it. I said you have a map that can only send in the 'Best' the 'Truth Tables' can come up with was that 'said combo of cells changed.' You then changed the mapping and all is fine... is why we cry for a map on line.

Signed,
