Is my bikes ever red to as metallic black?
11/16/14 10:16 PM

After recently dropping my bike and needing to repair the left fairing, I am wondering what my paint colour is commonly referred to.

Of course it looks black but has a beautiful blue colour in sunlight.

My issue is I have found replacement parts on http://www.ebay.com/itm/261603147153 in the USA seemingly in my colour, seemingly unmarked. Straight swap. So is metallic black the only black like mine?

LOL Hub must have helped you out with this post!

No, not all years of black are the same. However, the ColorRight site indicates that the paint code is the same for 2012 and 2013 metalic spark black.

Definitely the lowers are different colors. Yours is a flat black and the lower on the 2013 fairing in the ad is glossy.

Be very, VERY careful about buying fairings on Ebay. If you do a Google search, you'll find that point made over and over. The description of the item does not make me very confident it will be in like new condition. Also, if you mouse on the pics to magnify them, it sure looks like there are marks on the fairing. THere are what appears to be some small but obvious digital touchups. Look near the angle where the side meets the lower. Also, other places.

If it was my bike, I'd buy a new fairing from a reliable seller. The fairing you have now doesn't look bad except for the lower.

Is it just the lower that is damaged? If so, I'd try sanding/buffing that out smooth and spray paint it flat black. You'll probably want to do that to both after a few years anyway.

BTW, I can't give a 100% recommendation on DIY matches with ColorRight paint. If you know exactly how to apply it, you can probably match the OEM color. I found the frame color difficult to do a perfect match using colorRight paint. It's very expensive and not always easy to use.

http://www.kawasaki.co.uk/...this may be your best bet here....I can't tell just what color that black is on your model..it appears to be Metallic Spark Black...but not sure. The Blue tint is throwing me off.The LOWER is a Flat Satin Black...the Kawasaki website for the Euro models shows pics...but they're not very helpful as to what's 'flat painted'...and what isn't(the lighting on the pics)

Does the Metallic Spark Black have a blue sheen to it?Like Rooks bike?

Thanks guys. I was a little keen to investigate because it appeared it may be the same colour. But it's too big a risk. The damage I have done maybe repairable. It's all scrapes. No cracks or gouges. Hopefully just sanding buffing and repainting.

The different colours in different markets are all confusing!

Rook, the mid fairing is damaged too, but again, almost just looks like the paint is scraped off. Hopefully easy repair and re paint. I'll probably have a go at the lower fairing in the way you describe Rook. But obviously the mid fairing needs pro help.

Thanks again everyone. I was tempted for a bolt off bolt on repair but it's too big a risk.

PS I just read the title! Obviously the iPad has auto corrected and I didn't check it! ??????

PSS I love my paint colour! Looks black but in sunlight, the blue is magnificent!

^^Sounds like Midnight Saphire Blue...but if they do not call it that, it might be a bit different. A lot of people though midnight sapphire had too big of metal flakes but I love mine. LOL "Bass Boat Blue" they called it!

I dropped mine and had lower fairing damage. Just a few chips. All I did at first was apply a dab of clearcoat and that made the unsightly white go away. Later, I filled the pits with a metalic black touchup paint and polished it with a light rubbing compound within a couple hours. I used the back of a spoon covered with a soft cloth to polish so I could just hit the touchups. The rubbing compound left a whitish scratched spot but that polished out with 3M scartch and swirl remover. Tedious but it worked. I can't even tell it's there now. If you can't see the dark grey plastic of the fairing when you apply clearcoat, it's not through the paint. You might be able fill that with clearcoat and polish. That lower looks pretty bad. That's a sand and repaint job.

Thanks for the advice Rook. The metal flakes are pretty chunky but I like it too. In the sunlight, it's like a different colour scheme all together.i might pull the lower bits off and follow your advice. Looking at replacement parts so trying to fix it can't hurt!
