200 mph club
12/20/11 10:54 AM

Hello everyone new to the forum thought I'd get my first post out of the way. I've got a 2011 14 that I picked up awhile ago and I was wondering what I need to do to get into the 200 mph club. It is my understanding that Kawasaki did a little work on the heads for 11 and it makes a little more power then previous years so what all would be needed

If you weren't there for my struggles, don't expect to be here for my success.

Remove the speed limiter from the ECU, and with enough room she might just do it stock.

With a modified 1991 ZX11 running closed-loop fuel injection I ran 200mph easy, but she was gassed out and didn't have anymore in her. She was making about the same HP we get today stock from 2008+ ZX14s. Not as much as the 2012 though.

Take the speed limiter out of the ECU on a 2012 ZX14 and I KNOW she will do 200mph, stock.

Whats the 3 words most often heard before someone really phucks up? "Hey watch this!"

I read on Brocks site that you'll need to drop rear sprocket to a 40 tooth

I'm going to try and join this club this July in Maine the have 1.5 miles of WOT and 1.5 of shut down. I have a 40 tooth rear on the way and have installed ever mod I could do short of going inside the motor....So I'm going to tuck down at tight as I can wing that baby wide open and hope for the best!!! lol I have had the 200 MPH Club Sticker for two years but would never think of putting it on there until I can back it up! lol

Never tried it but from what I recall reading about that, you grind two corners off and that gives 50% speedo reading. Same thing folks do with the Speedohealer when they setit to 50%. The speedo never sees 186 so the limiter never comes on. Sorry I have no more precise info bean, but it must be out there if you google.

A new sprocket nut wouldn't cost you much. I like my Speedohealer though. Bonneville is even better if you don't mind cutting that one OEM wire.

Not sure if it's any closer to you, but Wilmington Ohio has the ECTA mile coming this year.....might save you a little bit of driving? Not sure......but from what I've read, the LSR events that ECTA sponsors only allow your speed to be timed WITHIN a standing mile. I have plans to run mine this year at one of the 4 events scheduled - and Brocks Performance website has a short list of what they use to attain 200mph club status
http://www.brocksperformance.com/
http://www.ecta-lsr.com/

EDIT : Disregard the standing mile statement......just read up on LTA and they allow 1.5 miles of run up - definitely betters one's odds of hitting that 200mph mark vs. trying to cram it into a 1 mile run

Get Guhl to re-flash your ECU .... same result as a) taking flies out, b) removing top speed limitation, c) bumping the rev limiter up a bit.

If you let them dyno you 5 times (give or take a couple) they'll even make it so you can dump your piggy and have an improved ignition timing table as well.

Then you can use your SpeedoHealer V4 to compensate for sprocket changes alone.

Guhl could do that but then if you ever change sprockets you would have to get the SpeedoHealer anyway.

Congrats, Somefun. That's a little dream I have too. Maybe I should have a look at that event as well. Kinda scary when I think I could actually do it. I'd feel the pressure to not let up. but at some point you have to roll off and wind down or else--

Privateer I was thinking about the reflash but I already have a custom tune, PC5, ATRE, Muzzy Bonneville Pro, and Muzzy ignition advancer so I have all the bases covered. I don’t see the need to have it flashed when I already have all that. What would be nice would be to be able to remove all the add on junk and add a few RPMs. But I’m looking at about $900.00 for the flash and the custom tune afterwards and then I’d still have to run that PCV. What do you think?

Well I just got my ECU reflashed and I dropped off my baby at Comp CNC for a Super Sport head mod and 47mm throttel bodies.... Just wanted to ensure I meet my goal! Lol Jim at CNC says it should be good for 205 to 210 at the rear wheel! Sounds just about right. Can't wait to get my baby back!

That's nice! zx-14R power without the weight. How reliable is that going to be though? Any issues with that mod? 210 hp and those BST wheels would make me eternally happy! Could you post the dyno sheet and I would be interested to see what you're gas mileage is going to be like. What is going to happen to your factory pro mid velocity stack?
Good Luck

Dragking I talked to Jim at competition for a long time on that because my main concern is reliability. I ride 10k a year and will be in way out there places with nothing. So I told him I’d rather have less power and more reliability but he assured me that it will not change. He mentioned going to a 2mm over bore but I really didn’t want any part of that. What he’s doing with the SS head is just improving the Kawasaki head to flow better. That doesn’t affect reliability. He will be milling the head slightly which will give me slightly more compression but nothing crazy. He explained to me that he has many of them out there and I would be fine. He is going to put adjustable cam gears in there and degree the cams which he says show a very nice improvement for sure. The he’s adding 47mm throttle bodies which should be real nice. The bike comes with 44mm. That should be worth about 6HP or slightly more. Once he’s done with the build we’ll install the re flashed ECU from Dynotronics and then head to Dyno Time in Brookfield CT for a full custom map! Man I always seem to get myself into these situations…..I was just doing a simple valve adjustment! Lol but one I was in there I couldn’t see any reason not to make some small changes…O Boy should be a great riding season…..O mid stacks will still be in use.
