another PC question
01/23/10 12:27 PM

ok I installed a use PC lastnight and ran the bike well today I get up to load a map onto the PC and the bike wont start I smell fuel so I ASSUME its getting no spark and when I try to load a map I get an error to pc message. I also plugged in the 9v battery and still got the error message. Anyone have any help to offer? I will go back and check my connections and the ground but I can see the lights roll up and down so I know the PC is getting power to it..

If your battery is low(the 9 volt)-which it will do QUICKLY-then you will get an error message. What are your volts on the bike's LCD screen showing?Any FI errors on your LCD?Flashing red lights? If I'm not mistaken-you cannot load a map while the bike is running-OR-just having it plugged in.The 9 volt has to be attached and a fresh battery being used. Then you need to turn the ignition on(I think)to power the unit and map loading capabilities-I might be wrong-but I think that's how I did mine. That 9 volt will die fast-I do know that.It is possible-likely-that you can load your map from your desktop computer using the 9 volt-yes-that's how I've done mine a few times.Doesn't need to be connected to the bike.I'm thinkin maybe the no-start situation is not related at all to the powercommander. If you remove the powercommander-you should be getting an FI error at the LCD-only applying to the motorcycle, not the commander. If your battery(bike) is low-you'll have a very hard time starting her-she'll crank seemingly "fine"-but just be shy of enough power to light the candle.Don't burn up your starter cranking on a low power situation!Did you adjust any faceplate buttons on your Powercommander? If so,you will need to remove the installed map, reload the map you want, and then give er a go.You said "used" commander. The previous owner "may" have thrown the map off by adjusting the faceplate buttons. It can be reset again through the software-but until you actually do the reset, that map will be"corrupted" so to speak. Whatever adjustments he may have done-they may not be okay for your bike?Maybe that's why he got rid of it?Couldn't get it to reset?.You can reset it though-and it should work fine.

If you use the bolt for the coolant reserve tank as a ground, there is a special procedure that you may want to follow to be certain that the ground does not lose contact. (ask, I'll dig up the thread.) I used a different screw to ground so that the contact would be solid.

Use the subframe bracket bolt just aft of the harness bracket.File off the paint, reattach ground, use that small subframe bracket bolt-Voila!Only need to remove the left side foreman for that job.

You do not need a 9 volt battery(nothing but grief IMO). Key on, bike running. Or once bike is running, turn off with kill switch not the key. Should see RPM window in right side of computer screen active. If your ground is now fixed it's your computer. It is not seeing the Power commander. No #'s RPM window is sure sign.

Here's the thread. Good time to get it in the right section. It was an emergency for me several months back so I put it in General. Philhnss' ground mod is mentioned by him on the first page.

I used Blue's ground suggestion and it has worked perfectly for about 7000 miles. Look at steps 18 & 19 here for photos.

So ZX DURAN-you did get it started then?10-12 volts-gotta charge that baby up.Nice long ride ought to do it-or a batterytender overnite.13-14 volts is what ya want.Should be chargin when you're ridin at around 13.8 to 14+ volts.Only time it should drop much lower is the first start of the day-but not by much-it should perk right up to the upper volts right away.If you're having to crank away to get it to fire-something "MAY" be wrong.Voltage would be my first check-unless your LCD is flashing a code there.

Ok rook thanks for the link I actually used your how to when installing the PC the other day except I dont have a file to remove the paint off the subframe so I used a piece of sand paper 80grit and thats when I began having ground issue's so I moved it to the coolant bottle bolt. I took my lap top over to the zx10 which has a PC also and thats the one I used its disc and cable from and it wouldnt communicate with my 10 either so Im guessing since its and old disc it may not be working on my laptop??? thats the only thing I have left to believe cause I have tried everyones suggestions and trouble shot this darn thing left and right. oh and blue my voltage was up to 14+ I was reading that after my PC had a bad ground and I spent a few minutes trying to crank her up.

http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?TID=46107&FID=27 They gave me a step by step of the issue.
Long story short its a PC for a 10 and I have to paste a 14 map over the 10 map and down load it like that..bunch of BS but it will work

Ya-pretty amazing-I looked that up what you posted-exactly what you've got alright!I had NO idea.Well-hope it works okay for ya.I'm just a tad unsure about this deal though-if it won't load with a zx10 map, how's it gonna know it's loading a 14 map?I mean,a map's a map, yes?Try it and see....you're just copying and pasting the "values" right, not the map origination at the bottom?I'm thinkin if it's trying to read a "zx14 map" from their website, and it's designed only for a 10,you're gonna have to trick it into thinking the map is a zx10 map.I wouldn't include any info from the 14 map except the values. There MAY be more to it than what it appears ZX.Even with a 14 map in there-there "might" be some sort of software issue in regards to how the fuel mix will actually come out.The 10's injectors are probably a different size?Do you think that could cause any problem trying to get "extra" fuel with the 14 map and the 10 software?Just wondering-not trying to discourage you.Would hate to see yer engine mess up because of a lean condition or something.Maybe you could call dynojet and get their thoughts on it?

I'd just see if who you bought it from could "exchange" it for a 224-411 model(maybe just tell em you got the wrong one-"sorry").Then your hassle would be done.Maybe they'd charge ya a small bit "extra" for doing that, but it'd be better than trying to work with the wrong model EVERY time you wanted to make a change. If they do go for it-make sure you get the correct software disc-224-411.Hope ya get it sorted out okay.

There may be a deeper reason than you know for NOT being able to get that map to work in there-that's how I'd look at it!Keep us posted on this one will ya.You'll get it working okay soon. You hear all kinds of "fixes" on the internet ya know.It hasn't been damaged-they ought to exchange it.Oh yeah, you mentioned it was "used"-well-okay-probably scratch that idea that they'll exchange it-I'd just stick to the story"I bought the wrong one"...see what they say.Since ya already paid for it,they're not out anything by exchanging it with ya.They can always sell it to a 10 owner again.

hey scott could you elaborate on that question please?

Firmware. My LCD is currently only capable of communicating with my auto tune but will display no data from my PCV. I was advised that my LCD would be fully functional with my PCV after there was a firmware update. Apparently, DJ occasionally updates the "operating systems" of their products and this enables them to do new things. I would talk to DJ. They gave me correct info about my set up even though I purchased it from a second party. Second parties don't always know what they are talking about, especially when it comes to more unconventional use of the modules.

VICTORY IS MINE!!!
Thank ya'll for the help and for being the best most helpful 14 site around. I finally got on the horn with DJ and yes sir Rook you were correct my software was an older version and once I downloaded the newest version the maps loaded right up and I reset everything I could hear the bike run diffently once the map was sent...This thread should be a sticky to help anyone having issues I think most anything challanging happened during this install
