Bike alarm
11/24/13 2:11 AM

Hello everybody. I am looking for advise on an alarm system for my new bike. My last bike was stolen from Myrtle Beach in August. Even though I had a disk lock on it, the S.O.B's just picked it up and threw it in the back of a pick up. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I use scorpion. It has a fob, motion sensor, kills engine and a loud alarm. This way I can hear my bike chirping as it is being stolen.
Lol

I've heard great things about Low Jack!

Trust me, if I would have walked out of my room that Sunday morning at 0500 and caught the 4 sorry worthless piles of dog sh%*,everyone of them would have had a Winchester ranger hot lead breakfast . The local fruneral (spelled that way intentionally) home would have been packing their asses with cotton.

If a thief is hell-bent in stealing your bike he will. Best advice I can give you is to have good insurance, at least it won't be a total loss.

You can also take a look at THIS THREAD about alarm systems.

I wish I had saved the thread. There is a Reddit AMA written by an accomplished bike theif. At the pinnacle of his career he had built a Faraday box that defeated the LoJack signal.

His biggest annoyance? Disc locks on the rear disc combined with quality cable tethers threaded through the rear axle. These devices would force him to carry large, bulky tools which were ungainly. Also, if he were caught with them he's in trouble.

His biggest fear? The owner catching him in the act and getting killed.

He stated over and over how he and his ilk always try to do research on your habits before they strike. Sometimes they even use a prop; a dog or a young child. Something innocent to give them an excuse to get a close view of your scooter.

If they want it yes they will take it.. I agree with the best thing is good insurance.
August 30 2013 I had my 09 stolen in front of my (a nice philly row home). I had scorpion
Alarm and a wheel lock on my front wheel. It was 5am and I heard my alarm.. I woke up grabbed my
GLOCK 23 and by the time I made it outside they were gone. I do hear lo jack is good. A big story here
in philly a few weeks ago was a bike was a cops bike was stolen and because of lo jack they found it
and busted a motorcycle chop where the was found. In my case I had good insurance and was able to
to go from a 09 to 2013 zx14!!! I'm still getting another scorpion tho. I think they did case my shit waiting
for me to slip up and not chain it down.. which I didn't when it was stolen.

+1 on the Scorpio alarm, in addition I have a NY Motorcycle chain, disc lock and an anchored attachment... Not to mention Glock's, AR-15's, shotguns, etc, etc.

Nutsack, you can get a brand new Scorpio sr-900 from 2 wheel pros cheaper than you are selling a used one.... Love these guys selling their used crap for more than the cost of a new one.

I cable the rear wheel, but that's only good for keeping children from pushing it around, if a theif wants your bike
it's gone.

Well, I gotta go to Cycle Gear and buy a new cover. The bastards stole my $13 chinese cover this morning. Probably the same shitheads that stole the $5 speakers out of my car doors. I just dream of the day I catch one of them...POW! To the moon!

I hear ya Bill. I told my wife that if I ever get the chance to catch them in the act she better head down to the jailhouse to bail me out. I have ZERO sympathy for thieves. I got the new cover and now have it locked to the bike. I am picking up a disk lock that has a motion sensor and an earsplitting alarm next month. If I didn't love my bike so much I'd just wire a hand grenade to it with the cover attached to the pin...

Madd..
Hmmm...........can you get some of that packet exploding indelible ink that they pack in with ransom money on TV?

Put some of that with the items stolen off your bike and/or.......

you could put one of those cellphone/computer trackers in the package or attached to the items that are being taken and let the police "find" the tracker and the thief.

Is that kind of effort/expense worth it? Only you can answer that question. Could be fun, though.

Depending on where you park; you could also set up a game camera. These are reasonably priced and used to learn the game movement habits in a hunting area. They can shoot a pic every few minutes over the time period or they can be movement triggered and the more expensive ones shoot night shots with infrared! Get pics of these guys and post them in the neighborhood and with the police report.

Cheers!
