9,300 miles later- had to get new tires
08/25/12 8:31 AM

Hello All,

Finally swapping out the stock tires. Not showing any tread yet but it's coming soon. Decided to got with the Pilot Road 3s and see how they hold up. The selection at the bike shop was limited and I have a 300+ mile trip planned for tomorrow. Will research and order online next time to get a better deal and (maybe) better tire.

Anyone running these? I don't burnout or canyon carve but I will lean it over and get down when I have to :)

I'm surprised at how few miles everyone is reporting. I probably would have replaced the stock with the same tires but they didn't have them. I don't think the Pilot Powers would last half as long.

Romans: just normal speedy cruising with good friends all over in the small twisted roads. Once been on track as a full day.
I guess KTRC is the guilty for tyre lifetime ;)
Kermit is awesome bike - getting better day by day.

Romans: Still nothing special to add on my post. Compared to my previous bike K8 busa, riding style and trips are the similar and on that bike tyre change with similar tires about 9000-10000km. And I do not change tires too early, usually too late ;)

Maybe our roads here in Finland are more rough due to studded tires which are used on winter times.
Ok, maybe have to admit that my style is not the most economical one but clearly Kawi consumes tires a bit more than Busa :D

Hi
Dealer here in OZ recommended no less than 42PSI for the front and rear for best tyre life. Not my cup of tea personally. I prefer traction over tyre life. :):):)

bullshit.

First tire on my Gen1. 8,300 miles.

I'm surprised at how few miles everyone is reporting.

Me too. I have never gotten ONLY 2-3K miles out of a tire.

42/42 is where I try to keep the pressure.

I usuaslly keep them at 42 psi on the street. Sometimes go up to 45 for touring but must say, there is a large difference in braking and cornering traction with the extra 3 psi in there. A bit dangerous perhaps and I don't know that it helps stretch tire life much. 30 psi worked good for track. Definitely improves traction under severe conditions (i never encouter on the street, BTW).

If you keep them hard, I think that helps them to last a lot longer. I believe the climate and asphalt composition have something to do with tire longevity too.

Just wore the Power 1 down to the ware bar at 6000 miles and that is a street legal tire designed more for track use. Ready to replace it now. To me, 6K miles is what I expect out of a tire on the street. BT-016s last me the same.

I'm at 3000 miles and my tires still look brand new, I will be going back with the metzeler when they need to be replaced.
