Figuring things out
04/12/20 1:59 PM

So, i bought a new to me zx14r. My first one as some of you know. Has a full muzzy exhaust. I was looking at the receipts the guy gave me. I found out there's also a pcV. The other thing i noticed, was i can change my ktrc while i'm in motion. I was reading on some of the ecu flashes and it's something usually included in that. Am i safe to assume this thing has already been programmed and all set. I wouldn't know how to tell if the power limiters in the lower gears are already removed. I know it starts to pick the front tire up around 5k in 1st.

I'm guessing that they got rid of all of the "safety" features when they installed the PC-V and did the tuning.

You can assume there is a fuel/timing map in the PC V that is a modification of the stock map. Also download the PC sw and plugin to unit usb with your laptop to see what you have and then talk with PC support.

To know if the ECU has been modified/flashed you would have to take the bike to a tuner(or send the ECU to one to check it) with the SW to check and get a dyno pull while you are there.

Search the forum, lots of threads on tuners.

I mean it runs great and is crazy fast so i don't really care as long as it's running right. It does rpm bounce at idle a bit. My Z1000 would do that a little bit but this definitely does it more.
Also i'm going to change the oil, i typically use rotella T6 in my bikes. Don't want to start an oil thread war but anytime have a reason i shouldn't?

I found out there's also a pcV.

Maybe look up under the left grill cover. Ther are piggy connectors times 4, meaning, the pc plugs into the injector harness to main harness. So the pc would have the same male/female connector ends and there is your bundle, short of pulling a top fairing cover to see if the pc box is there, or a tether cable out of the pc so it's easy to use a laptop for mapping?

Am i safe to assume this thing has already been programmed and all set.

Kind of. My 13 would not mode change while over say 5mph? If I slowed for a stop sign, it would kick in, but blow thru the stop sign just to move to the next mode change. But change it on the fly, yeah, flashed. It might have toggled that off, but remember how the modes felt? Those did not change. Just flipflop it to off, and the fly is the mode.

wouldn't know how to tell if the power limiters in the lower gears are already removed.

This one is above my pay grade. Too many, 'yeah, but what about this still in the loop, and this is not tampered with, and on and on'. Unless we are talking about spinning it up in the stones, wheelie and don't back off? Maybe in OFF mode, but if in 1-F?, then my guess is no, limiters are in play. I just have it in 1-F most if not all the time, and...

I know it starts to pick the front tire up around 5k in 1st.

... being in that mode, mine is 2nd gear, 7k and my bike dances at that rpm. Why do I back off? Blood leaves the brain, enters into the 100% cotton briefs and if I had to walk in public right after that...

Yeah, run whatever you're comfortable with... no war started here.

I've used Rotella T 6 in my bikes for years with no issues.

I also run Rotella T6. I think it works great.

Why not ask the PO if the ECU was flashed and what map he used for PC
and if so who did the flash and map.

Most tuners put a sticker on the ECU

It was/is pretty standard to do both at the same time.

Most flashed ECU's will turn the rad fans on earlier too.
Stock I think is 204 flashed 194

Oh.... I too have used T6 for many bikes/years.
