When riding, take a handful of hard braking once you come up to a light or slow traffic. Hard break-in is more for racing contact. The more surface making contact, the better the bead-in. But for street, you can just hang back and brake normal.

Even a brisk few curves with light braking will just cut more surface off so the pad makes full contact and that is all you are really after is full face pad contact.

I was just thinking. I would occasionally get guys in with squeaky brake pads. Of all the same bike brand out there, the same pad material on that same production bike, why are not the other pads squeaking?

I figure it has to be the person's right hand squeeze. They seem to bring on a unique type of harmonic like you mention the 'juddering' grab to the pads.

Once that pad was in my hand, I went looking for a sidewalk made out of cement. I took that smooth finish off, reinstalled it with the dust still on the pad. I would then go out: Hammer on the front lever where I would almost skid the front wheel, be in 2nd and just hammer down more brake and apply move cable opening.

I'd put a "cook" in the pad and disc with just a few seconds of this action. I'd unload, run up to cool the discs and pads, then hammer down on the brakes and apply cable again. This may be about 3 or 4 times I do these short blips.

Did the dust cause any sound? Guy never came back. Did the bead-in show it was not the brake pad? Guy never came back.

And I have a 1 in thick pc of flat plastic that I lay a pc of 120 grip paper on the do a few swipes with the pad over it. Gets down to fresh pad and stops good.
May not be the best way but works for me.

I found riding after the rain would let water sit between the metalic pads and rotor, leaving behind tiny pits aparently from electrolysis. Braking would squeak and feel of a "warped" rotor. Hard braking mostly restored it. I finally put in a set of asbestos fiber pads and cured that problem completely. Braking is improved too.
