have fun but just know reality. I know when I went fast I started to make up my own rules and to perceive the open road a lot differently than those who were doing more or less run of the mill driving. I really thought that I was gonna cruise the highway at 90-100 mph for ever. That was very tame to me. Nobody cared about a little sportbike going fast. Heck i probably hardly ever ride it anyway.

I just won't be going fast any more unless the odds are heavily in my favor. Track riding is as safe as it gets.

Your methodology sounds like "riding the pace" and a safe approach to some good times within your limits with an eye, I would guess, to expanding those limits incrementally on roads you know.

We rode 200 miles I'n the twisties on New Years eve and then again on New years day. I can honestly say I never once went ton up, kept the ego I'n check and stayed focused on staying smooth in the corners. You can easily hit 130 to 150 on the straights out here with almost any modern sportbike but I knocked all that off a few years back. Folks live and work out here and I want to be able to come back.

I know what you're saying about going ton up and getting that adrenalin buzz. I have a few spots were I can do that with relative safety but I do big speed in very short bursts and get back down to cruising speed. This satisfies my need for speed craving without exposing myself to high risk.

Around here, you go high speed and stay there and someone or something will get you. I like Jeff's plan, 15,000 miles with no LEO attention, pretty outstanding.

Last time I looked down to see 110(coming off of lift to look) was the last time I went out on the bike. Dish is the bike for it. Now it's time for ultra-grunt. Wire me up some tone wheels so I can use 4th and not sit there in 6th. 150 is nothing for today's bike. Year all sound like a bunch of old goats yelling you'll poke your eye out with your elbow and not put any cc bigger in year ear I'm going to backup my rear end to your ear full you're going to get it!

Trade in your 14's for a bagger... YEAREADY!

You know it, I know it, it's a bunch of BS, you are going to sit there, say you deserve a ticket because you are probably more skilled than the average driver. My tactics were just that and the cop gave me that conformation. It says I am much safer keeping who I come up on... PAY THE ATTENTION! You are driving that hunk... BE RESPONSIBLE NOT CALL FOR FONE SEX I'M TONE WHEELING HERE.... I'M TONE WHEELING HERE!!!

That's what I'm taking about! I know I've been lucky; especially at times in the great state of WI; one ticket and a coupla warnings in 4 years of ZX-14 riding must be some kind of record good fortune. But I think the methods we are talking about here minimize the risk for tickets and also for harm to self and others.

If you want no risk, then you gotta give up riding altogether.

why stop there? just give up living.

I think most of the fear and accordingly, most of the risk is related to getting stopped by the police. Everyone who rides one of these bikes accepts responsibility for getting himself out of trouble and I dare say, as a whole we do a pretty good job of that. With the police, its not up to you it's up to them and there isn't a whole lot of motivation to not write tickets. that would basically be the cop proving that his job is unnecessary if he can't find anyone to write a ticket to. I'm sure cops want to write tickets especially when the economic times are tough. Especially when they are new cops first in line to hit the shitcan if budget cuts get the best of them.

Sorry... I'm late to the party. The part I found funny the most is when Mark said you knee downers are idiots I only do 100 plus here and there. it's like a thief telling another one I only rob banks and you rob grocerie stores loool. GEntlemen.... I'm gna leave you with a statistic lesson a friend of mine gave me a long time ago: if you're on a zx-14 you've probably went over the speed limit at least a cple of times. Now let's say that 15% of the people who carve corners die a premature death and that only 5 % of the one who ride like mark die early. Then u could say u re better off being mark right? Well it depends cause once u fall in that 15 or 5% then you have 100% of chance of dying. So life is short and unless I see ur skill level, where and how u ride I won't judge u. Be safe out there!

I try not to go any faster than 10mph over the speed limit I did not buy this bike to exceed the speed limit or smoke other riders in the corners I got it for 0-60 passing power and comfort here in F.L. we have a lot of rich older douche-bags with corvettes and other high-powered cars that when you try to pass them they try to race you or keep you from passing them and the ZX14 pulls away with ease without bringing up the front tire (if you get caught doing a wheelie in F.L. they impound your bike and put you in jail no warnings) it works for me I have no tickets on my license and could not be more happy!!!!

Yes, Rook, I was cannonballing sundown. I timed where I had to go. I had a smoke shield and just wanted to play with the rays of time. I'm on earth liv'inn life! I had it in the back of my mind that I might get a ticket. I squirted at the wrong section is all. It is more, I know where not to set the fuse nectime, sticking my neck out.

There is no way I run from any cop these days. It's not that I can give them a run for their money. Besides, the academy likes them green; without bringing bad skills or any at all. So, they may have high speed training in rain spots and all that... I'm more saying, I won't put them at risk, especially with family. It domino effects everyone down the chain.

I'd say, you and officer circumference and his white donut powdered stained, sticky jelly pen, sign here, knew what you [really] did. I got off easy. Lucky he was on a bike too. See how green he was when he mentioned, 'fast?'

She, I go to traffic school, check out the naughty girls. Maybe [I get lucky] one needs a good riding.

Got pulled over on Friday, 71 in a 40. Been down that road hundreds of times, usually waaay faster than that. Squad car was back off the road in a private drive and I never saw him until it was too late. Incredibly, he gave me a warning and told me to slow it down. He thanked me for not running...like I'm gonna run from the police....no way Jose! If I screw up, I'll take the hit. He asked me for my DL and proof of insurance, which I provided. Strangely, he did not call in on the radio for wants and warrants, this has only happened to me once before. Are a lot of these guys sportbike riders, IDK? I think how you approach the officer makes a huge difference. I pull over immediately and am very non-threating and polite. I try to smile and make a small joke to lower the tension. I've had the incredible fortune to have gotten 4 warnings out of the last 5 traffic stops on a bike. The one guy that wrote me up was a motorcycle cop and he seemed to have an attitude, no way I was getting off on that one! In my Ford Explorer, forget it, one mile over and you're getting a ticket...LOL! Never once gotten out of a ticket in a four wheeled vehicle. They seem to treat mature sport bike riders different here. anyway, I'm driving that stretch like a little old lady now out of respect for that LEO, cool guy!

Sorry to hear you got whacked Hub, been there and done that. It slows you down a lot and makes you a bit paranod, at least it does me.

On a more serious note, we were out doing my favorite stretch of N. Texas twisties on Sunday and emergency first responders had a bridge blocked off. Apparently a bike flat spun off the bridge into the creek. They had alrady hauled the guy off and were fishing the motorcycle out of the creek bed. Hope he's OK, I haven't found anything on the net yet or in the local newspapers. That is a really bad spot and one where I slow way down, big bumps and lots of damp leaves on the roadway as it's under a canopy of trees.

Glad u got outta that 1 Kruz. I went on a ride the other day with two persons I met on the local rider group. We stopped for lunch and started to talk about LE and tickets and the guy tells me he's LE. A really nice fellow. He told us how he would decide whether to write somebody up or not... and told us some LE have quotas and incentives when it comes to tickets. U must have fallen on a guy like him. The ones that rarely issue warning are ST and DPS.

Sweet video - Ok its official _ pretty soon I need to sell my 09 zx14 for a newer model :) And for the idiot who states I dont need to go that fast - wtf - Sounds like my dad. Its not that I'll ever go 185 mph, its the fun and feel of having that much horsepower under your legs and the grin on your face you get when you crank the throttle douchebag. Thats what its about.
