Had my 2013 model since 10 Jan this year and I HATE it.

Hate it sitting in garage not being ridden.

Hate it for getting me to work so quickly.

Ok Ok. I love it. there is nothing not to like about the bike.

You want storage. Go and buy a lead Wing or cruiser with saddle bags.
Want to lock your helmet to bike. Take the seat off and hope no one pisses in your helmet.

That is actually my only gripe about the bike. The lack of a decent and convenient helmet lock.

THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE. Just summing up what I think about anyone who ever knocks anything about this bike, or class of bike.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not really knocking this awesomely crafted machine. OP asked what we disliked, and I came up with the ONLY things I can even think to nitpick about it. and I had to think hard about what I would really change, if I could design one that is Supremely PERFECT.

None of THOSE reflect how it rides, rapes, and pillages the villages, towns, and roads. and pretty much anything with wheels that decides to come knocking.

oh, and I thought of two (3? 4?) more.

1 - It could have been cheaper, lmao. All the guys in the beginning were complaining about cost. BUT lemme tell you. I was in several showrooms and the dealers had 2011's and hadn't gotten in a '12 yet. They wanted more for it than I paid for mine. I got a decent deal for the beginning of summer (may) in 2012. 13,299+tax. Others have before and since paid a bit less, but I'm happy.

MSRP differences from when the OG (2006) 14's came out were fairly LOW. Heck all bikes were cheap ten years ago. My 02 R6 was what? 6800? My 03 R1 was 8799+tax? Price a literbike now. MSRP on a '12 tenR was what? 14K. now a 30th anniversary 10R with ABS is 16K? Shits got pricey. Gone are the days of badass bikes under 10K. Hell, check msrp on a 600. 10K lol.

2 - and uh, oh yeah. No steering damper. and no ohlins suspension on the SE here in the states - to date either. BUT that shit costs more, see above.

3 - weight. BUT if it were lighter (aka no cats in the big ass exhaust), it wouldn't pass noise and sniffer reg's and then they would have to make it slower and detune it. Motor would be smaller, etc etc.

4 - doesn't handle quite as good as a true supersport. No shit. if I wanted one of those (and could comfortably ride it), I would have bought one. lmao.

nothing brings me more mental pleasure than getting out for a ride on this beast. I didn't even romp on it today, just a cruise to lunch and a leisurely trip back through town to come home. Awesome. Cant get enough.

AGAIN, this is by no means directed at anyone, just my .02 about what I have heard others bitch about, and really think they are dumbasses. lmao.

SARCASM OFF!

Yeah, it's a good question...

Most things I dont like on a cycle get swapped out for something else.

This cycle, I've put less than $1000 in upgrades. So, I'm thinking there's not much about it I dont like.

But... those silencers. They're *so* ugly. I live with them because I'm cheap, and I dont need the extra 2 HP from a $1500 upgrade (I'm exaggerating). Other makers can put on nice looking cans that pass US tests. Why not Kaw?

"Other makers can put on nice looking cans that pass US tests. Why not Kaw?"

I think they did that so the cats would be in just the end mufflers and you could just
Put slip ons to get rid of cats and weight also ...

A lot of those other bikes have big old cats in the mid pipe, so you either have to saw it
Off to put slip ons, or get a full system ...

I do wish Kaw used titanium header pipes stock for the 14, like they did for the ZX10
But oh well ....

Just my 2 cents haha !

I refuse to start the tank bag thing as I see them wearing through your clearcoat.

If I had to be really picky I would say the LCD screen is hard to read when the sun is directly overhead.

No storage space.
They did away with the convenient helmet lock of the pre-R.

Both items of little importance to the overall pleasure of owning this bike.

I like the weight of the bike. Rides smoothly. Pushes around easily in the garage and yet still steers nice and quick; of course I'm no racer. I weigh 160, so I guess that helps.

I wouldn't mind a little storage, but really the little storage on most other sport bikes is usually so small it's not real useful IMO.

Helmet hook? ... Not willing to leave my $600 helmet exposed to weather / people / nature.

No buzzing for me ... yet?

This bike is awesome

It does have a helmet hook. Under the seat above the the heel plate area. Gotta lift seat up.

The one thing I don't like about the ZX-14R or the ZX-14 for that matter, is that the casing and the cylinders are all one piece. When it comes to cylinder boring, for racing, it also requires a complete engine teardown.

Don’t get me wrong, the ZX14 it’s an amazing powerplant, but for anyone who likes to modify engines for dragracing, the ZX-14 engine is very limited in that area.

In my opinion, the reason a lot of Busa owners don’t make the jump to the ZX14R, is because the aftermarket racing industry is loaded with lots of aftermarket race and custom parts for them. Unfortunately, modified Hayabusas still rule at the 1/4 Mile and Standing Mile tracks.

1. Battery access is pita
2. Lack of any storage

Those are so minor to me. These bikes are sweet.

Thought of something else, also not a huge deal - I've gone thru only 1 tank of gas so far, but the Range is kinda all over the place. One moment 208 miles left ... the next 173 mi ... then back to 203.

I ended up re-fueling with 4.2 gallons at 150 miles = 35.7 MPG ... of course I can't exceed 4K RPM right now

Still ultimately fantastic!

I don't have a 14R but the only thing I'm not too fond of on my 2011 model is that to take the seat cowl off, you have to take the screws out. Not really that big of a deal I just don't like the way the bike looks without it so I'm constantly taking it on and off so the wife can ride. I was thinking that some kind of "latch/clip" type system would be faster and easier but then again idk how the quality would be and how well it would hold on. Also because it's kind of challenging to hold the seat in one arm and use the screw driver with the other because I don't want to set the seat down upside down because the cowl might get scratched.

Nothing but the shift set up would rather have the tie rod and linkage over whatever they call the lever on shaft...

I find it funny that the Connie has a rod linkage setup for shifting and the zx14 doesn't.
