I was coming down off a canyon ride, getting to the freeway to go home, I was going down the street
At the speed limit, had the right of way, she was at a STOP sign, and she just darted out, right in front
of me ! I had no time to react, but was able to hit the front brake and lean it to the left,
To avoid hitting her dead center in the driver door or through the window, as it was My left shoulder area
took the full impact at 45 mph, but better than being dead, or paralyzed ...

By her own statement to the police, she said she looked left, then looked right, and took off, problem is,
That she was turning left ! She should have at least looked left LAST, before turning !

I still don't understand how she didnt at least HEAR me, I had dual Yosh, and the packing was probably gone or almost gone ....

Anyway, in this incident, I don't think I could have done much more to lesson it, my advise is, be very careful approaching intersections, and try and bob and weave as much has you can, that way, the cage has a better chance
Of seeing you coming ...

normally I wouldn't try to lay it down, because that way you might end up UNDER the car, but in this case, after my
Shoulder hit the front end of the car, I ended up going OVER the front of the car, instead of running straight through the car ! and ALWAYS were protection, I don't need to tell you that, but I always stress that, it was a warm day, but I had kevlar motorcycle jeans, and a mesh jacket with armor in all the areas.

Another case of "motorcyclist not seen..."

I get bashed for this some, but I drive with high beams on during daytime. It's one of the many reasons I selected the 14R for my 1st supersport.

All those lovely, bright lights up front. You see my list of accessories? I got lots of aftermarket lighting on my ass, too, and some on the sides. They went on all my cycles after a fellow employee got rear ended at night, and killed (drunk driver).

I love the lighting configuration of the 14 for this reason. When you go from low to high, not only are you brighter but the shape changes, and that has been shown to be a good attention gatherer. If I'm approaching a possible right of way violator I will turn my brights on and leave them on when I'm in the danger zone, but then turn them off again so I can do it again next time. Not a flash, since that can confuse.

Gently preloading the front brakes in anticipation of idiocy is also a good trick.

'Nother Story:

I used to design and build commercial aircraft systems, for a large con-glomo. I'm *very* familiar with radar, and have many years experience with it in my resume. From airport surveillance sets (2 M Watt+), to weather radar for aircraft (50 W and smaller).

So, one of the systems I helped design into the american fleet, due to FAA mandates, is the TCAS system ("Terminal Collision Avoidance Systems"), for the cattle cars in the sky.

This system would perform radar communications among aircraft that are in close proximity. First, the cockpit lights up with a collision warning, and announces the escape manouver manually, on a display, giving the pilot time to respond themselves. Then, if the craft has its autopilot engaged (most do, full time), and the pilot does not respond in time, then the system would *coordinate* and *execute itself* an escape manouver between all the affected aircraft, onboard each aircraft. If a new aircraft became affected because of it, they joined into the coordination activities.

It was fun to develop, test, and install it.

When you know this level of tech is available, There are times when I wish we had it.

Yeah, sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. Didn't mean to come across as pedantic.

Soon enough there will the the TCAS equivalent for motor vehicles. Hell, my new car can even parallel park itself and is loaded with wireless tech. The arrival of autonomous cars will be incremental enough that consumers will hardly notice.
