Removing Tank Protection
02/10/12 4:17 AM

Hey Guys,

Kawasaki was trying to help us by adding the center tank protection for the 14R's. Thinking of going with a Magknight since I have experience with the product on another bike and like the total coverage.

Any ideas on how to remove this piece without damaging anything.

I've read some reports of using heat from a blow dryer and try to peal in off. I've read the horror stories about some doing this and causing damage.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

A blow dryer works great. Run it on high setting. Work it over the whole piece a few minutes, then hold it over an edge and work that up. Just work your way along the vinyl pulling it up.

If you have glue residue, Goof Off helps to get it off. I keep a spray bottle of Goof Off in my shop, and use it quite often to clean gummy film etc. off parts. It will even take cosmoline off old military weapons. Which beats using kerosene and a fiber brush.

what? Did they put a big sticker on there or something? What is the point? that will get scuffed up eventually prolly quicker than paint.

if there is a plastic film over the sticker, don't take it off separately from the paper part or you will have a huge mess to scrape off.

...IMO, Goof Off was next to useless to clean off the above mentioned mess from the fuel type stickers on my busa tank. I'd just try denayured alchohol on paint. Use a microfiber cloth.

I guess I am assuming this is a huge sticker they pasted on where your crotch adn abdomin will contact the tank. Why not just leave it on? A magKnight will stick over that just the same as if it was not there at all.

Just got a CF look MagKnight for my 14. Nice. Only 2 complaints right now. It has a few tiny bubnbles where the top laminate has separated from the under layer. Looks a little crappy even brand new. I wouldn't complain over a small blemmish but this was +$100!!

Also, the right side does not seem to be sticking to the tank at the top forwardmost point. Not much magnetup there at hat skinny part. Haven't hit the protector with a heat gun yet --that will prolly help a lot.

If I didn't have the stripes on my bike, I would go with TechSpec. Looks great on the 14 and it is not just for protecting the finish but also a nice performance mod if you hang off the side.

TECHSPEC

If lightweight is your thing, pretty hard to beat a vinyl bra for full coverage protection.
