Do you guys think this is doable for as cheap as it is? It's off of flea bay..anyone else found and tried? It's powdercoated steel.

I bought the same unit.. it works but you may have to do a lil adjusting IIRC. I used my own lite. the unit is very heavy..

Thnx chrly. Hmm, I thought it looked a little flimsy, guess not if it's heavy. Didn't you get the 5 led bar with yours, or you just wanted to use your own? I assume not the stock light?

I'm sure the strength is much more than needed. I've had a couple L brackets from Lowe's for a license plate bracket on my 14 for 7 years. Very cheap, plenty strong and very lightweight. Heck, I made a similar thing out of aluminum for my busa. It works fine and weighs about zip. Unless you have plates made of cast iron, you don't need much to hold it on.

I thought about doing that Rook, then I found that cheapy and my laziness kicked in, lol. Definately wasn't going to shell out $100+ for Yoshimura or similar!! (Bad on me not making my own, being a machinist :o)

LOL the L brackets are no harder to install, I'm sure. That tag light looks mighty quick and easy but a small LED bolt light is very clean and there is a hole right where you need to mount it....no wires sticking outside of the mud flap. Hooks right into the same connector as the OEM tag light + I also run power for my both my PC5 and AutoTune off of it (pretty sure I'm running both on that connector). I couldn't resist. i presume the 14R is very similar to the Gen1 in design of the rear fender region.

I did use my own lite and no, it is NOT flimsy...:)

I have plenty of these small lites left.. You can have one if you want.. I had tp buy a dozen when I bought them so you are welcome to one...:)
They are the size of the cal Yr tag and angled so the lite really hits the plate..

Ditto, agree with Rook, I bought the same L brackets at Home Depot for my '06 ZX-14..... but I went deluxe and bought the ones with the brushed nickel finish for about $2. The pitch on the under tail bolt holes was identical to the spacing on the license plate bolts, almost like KHI planned it that way....hmm. LED license plate light was about $10, stuffs been on there almost 11 years now and is holding up great. Lightest, cheapest and easiest fender eliminator ever.

I don't get it with these aftermarket license plate holders, the plate weighs about 4 ounces but the brackets they use look like something made by Chicago Bridge and Iron....totally unnecessary. My Competition Werkes Tail tidy for my '16 ZX-10R holds the license plate and two LED turn signals but is made from aircraft grade stainless steel, .100" thick. The bracket weighs over 1 lb and supports only a few ounces....ridiculous!

If the entire bike was this poorly engineered, it would weigh as much as an Abrahms M1 battle tank and have the performance of a Winnebago motor home.

I'm pretty sure I'm using the exact same bracket, picked it up off flea-bay but I don't remember it being that expensive. Quite happy with it, really easy to install and I even cut the cargo net hooks/loops off of the OEM fender and used the bolts for bracket to mount them up. So I've got my hooks and no fender!

PS: for anyone who regularly straps stuff to the back of the bike using a cargo net I also got a couple of pieces of steel that have the holes pre-drilled (think flat & straight L brackets), drilled a couple of holes out bigger, sprayed it black and mounted it using by sliding the bracket behind the heel guard top bolt. So now I've got a hook point at the front and back of the bike.

About all the crazy weight concerns, the bracket with plate and metal frame...less than half a pound! Geez, I can gain a lot more than that after a meal, lol!! I'll probably use a different light, but liking it and can't wait to mount. Bikes all covered up in garage, and it's single digits going below zero tonight...I think I can wait.

I would recommend it. Single digits at NIGHT!?? You lucky sob, you! It takes til noon to warm up to single digits here.

Went snowmobiling today and it was minus 12 degrees when I started and only got up to 8 degrees F...

I guess it's all relative, considering Alaska averages what, -25 to -40 in the winter. Yikes! Now THATS cold brother!!

I just used the toolbox bracket and bent it. Purchased a pair of lights that were also bolts and bam. done

I used the Yoshi led one for the 14R. Didn't want to go too cheap. Pretty impressive fender elim for the price and look.

I think I picked a decent led, (not the one that came with it), lights the plate up nicely, if not a hair too much?

Mine is about the same....Kinda wipes out the middle at nite..
