Love my ZX
05/22/09 10:43 AM

Hello All,

After going back and forth a little bit between a Busa & the ZX14 i traded in my trusty 1998 Blackbird for a ZX14 Metallic Blue with Black bottom panles (11,000 Miles), and could not be happier with it so far.

Seating position feels alost the same as my Bird (just a little more stretch to the bars which is good, I'm 6'-1") & the seat is comfortable for my wife and I (although she prefered the Busa passenger Seat even though to me it looked like the pegs were a little more cramped than the ZX).

I really like the looks of the ZX, but then again I liked the Suzuki RF900 too. Between the Bird, Busa & ZX, I like the looks of the ZX the best.

I only thought my Bird was fast, I have now been introduced to a whole new level of fast, heh (I removed flies but have not insstalled a PC or done exhaust yet, but wowzers what a powerplant this bike has). Is a PC needed I hear rumors of the bike running lean without one but I live in UTah at about 4500 Feet above sea level so I figure I prolly run rich compared to sea level anyway???

Anyways awesome bike and loving it. Have seen alot of Blackbird converts in forums on ZX14's :)

Welcome, weimar.

You made a great choice. I am also about 4500 feet above sea level. You'll probably get varied opinions about the PC. I installed one, but I'm planning to replace the exhaust soon, so I figured I would need it for that anyway.

I think that you and I (always at 4500 ft or higher) have not even experienced the real power that this thing can deliver. I'd like very much to get it to sea level some day. I think there is 10+ more horsepower to be had at lower elevations. -bg

You would be losing a little more than 10 hp the loss is 3 percent for every 1000 ft. That is about 21.5 hp on a 160 hp engine at 4500 ft if I did my basic math right. Not to mention all the torque through the rev range. Come to the coast where its got real cool high pressure air. Under those conditions there is no need to mod the bike for power. Crack the throttle and it just rockets relentlessly.

Something else to ponder. I believe if you dropped a gear in the front advanced the ignition 4 degrees and used a good all around header like the Yoshimura then you might be close enough.
