Romans All In. Going For It
04/18/11 5:51 PM

Maybe I can sleep now. Tired of my buddies going buy me like I'm sitting still.

For those of you that don't know what it's like,,, there is nothing like having a TURBO 14 whistle up your ass when you are at wide open throttle. They don't just Creep By,,,,,,,,, of that I can assure you. Can't stand it any more. All IN.

Stage one for this summer and see how it goes.

This will be my First Turbo Bike. To say I'm excited about this would be a understatement. Can't wait. Wish Me Luck.

You lucky dog!!! I got to hit the 40 shot on my brothers sprayed 10R this weekend, may have to get some juice until I can afford a turbo. I have a buddy that just got a turbo on his 10R, I need to stay away from it, I dont need the bug any worse

Good for you! I'm so close to finishing mine, I can almost taste it! It's almost worth having a shop do it. Sure you'll pay out the nose, but *if* I can get my bike running correctly, there's probably nothing quite like doing it yourself as far as satisfaction goes.... Good luck and take lots of pictures!

What kit are you going to use?

I'll Bet. I have been following your threads over in bike land. Also been lurking in physco bike and in most all forums on the Turbo Threads for the last three years.

For over a year now I have been in contact with most all of the kit builders.

What kit are you going to use?

Going with Dave's Cycle Logic Complete Kit.

I have a partial CL kit, but why CL over the others? If I was buying a complete kit (not that you're asking my opinion), I'd go with a
1. Chris Jones
2. Orient Express
3. MR Turbo,
4. Muzzy's,
5. ATP,
6. Cycle Logic

Velocity Racing???

Don't get me wrong! The fit and finish of the CL kit is top notch, but the turbo he uses is old old old. VF22 doesn't compete with the Garrett or even the (gasp) Turbonetics (Muzzy kit). The CL kit does seem to come the most complete, and you can get it for $4000 compared to $5000 for the others, but imo, the bigger more efficient turbos of the Chris Jones or Mr Turbo kits are worth it! Look at all the record setting zx14s, and they are all using Mr Turbo or Chris Jones setups.

Honestly, they are all good. But if you pull the trigger on the CL kit, here's the things to watch out for.

I've heard the tune from CL is iffy. Make sure to throw it on a dyno, and keep the boost under 7 psi on pump. IMO, I wouldn't go over 6 psi on pump.

The oil scavenge pump is prone to failing. I've heard (though I don't know if it's true) that he pump on the CL kit is a window washer fluid pump, so as you can imagine, the heat kills the pumps with regularity.

Lastly, watch for boost creep if you're running the internal wastegate. I chose to modify mine to accept an external, and all the other kits use externals. I believe CL offers the external as an option, and if you go with CL, I'd recommend the external gate.

I also heard through the grapevine that Velocity is offering a kit for $4000, so that's worth looking at. Additionally, Orient Express doesn't advertise it, but I did some asking around, and they sent me some pictures of their kit. WOW, if you can get them to make you a kit, they are freaking NICE!!!! They include an adams cut and boxed pan, Garrett GT30 turbo. Very very nice stuff.

Haha, good luck!

That's a Easy one to answer; Dave

The fit and finish of the CL kit is top notch,

For sure.

The CL kit does seem to come the most complete

Important.

The oil scavenge pump is prone to failing. I've heard (though I don't know if it's true) that he pump on the CL kit is a window washer fluid pump, so as you can imagine, the heat kills the pumps with regularity.

Your kidding right ? I will ask. With his reputation on the line I just can't see it.

Haha, good luck!

Ouch.

I think you'll be happy with the CL kit if that's what you get, but I just don't like the vf22 turbo compared to the newer stuff you can get now-a-days. I HAVE a CL kit minus the RRFPR and turbo. Either way, post up lots of pictures and have fun!

unless your staying low boost 6lbs or less ..upgrade the fuel rail ..1 of my biggest improvements was a external pump bigger injectors and going to E85 .. i'm getting ET'S on 6lbs of boost that use to take 12lbs of boost on C16 ..

BUT AS FAR AS THAT OLD TECH TURBO vf22 ..MINE STILL KICKING AFTER 40K MILES AND 10,000 PASSES AND SOME MELTED PISTONS THRU THE EXHAUST BLADES . were other guys and the garretts have done needed rebuilds or replacement .. i guess theres a reason why it cost 1400.00 And when they road mine and seen theres no lag just smooth ramp .. they liked
