Color Rite Touch Up Paint
03/30/13 7:18 PM

Had a low shoe slide across my rear seat cowl's clear coat. Tried to buff it out with a dremel, but had too high RPM on the little sucker and made it worse by cutting all the way through the color and into the plastic on a spot about as bit as a tick.

I ordered the color and base from Color Rite, who apparently are the sellers of the Kawasaki OEM paints. How well do they really match in the real world?

I got the little jar of color and base, but plan to have a friend who paints spots on cars for a living to do it right with his air gun. I've done auto painting before (I have painted, and cleared an entire front clip with good results), but that was years ago and I don't want to risk me boogering it up on a bike like this.

Anyone buy the metal flake green touchup paint and if so, is the color match good? How did you apply it?

I would think the pen or model car looking brush, and just dabbing it on, then the clearcoat dabbed over the top would not look right, finishwise. From what I've learned, after the color, the clear coat has to be wet sanded and hit with a buffer to get a professional looking gloss shine.

Had the guy who paints cars with dings and scuffs for a living try to paint the spot.

Now its worse than ever. I think it would have ended up looking better had I lightly touched the spot with the brushes in the touchup bottles. Its now about three places, and a line where he masked the emblem........so I had to take that whole section off, order a new emblem ($45 more), and hopefully I have enough paint left in the touchup jars to get it done right.

He did it for free, but this freebie is already costing me $45 more, so far.

Sorry to hear of your misshap. I have ordered the color rite paint to paint areas on my M109R, and the candy, or 3 stage paints are a pain to match. If the parts are joining, it is nearly impossible. One pass too many with the color coat can cause a problem.
I was considering having my corbin bags on my zzr1200 touched up in a couple of spots. I wish you could get a close match in a single stage paint color so that the number of passes with the paint gun would not be so critical.
