Most seem to favor BMC air filters. That's what I have. Ask any tuner and they will tell you the air filter won't change your intake enough to even affect mapping a significant amount. You will make another 2 hp so it's worth the 80 bucks, but the gain isn't worth the risk of poor filtration. I have a BMC race filter for both my bikes but I have yet to run anything but stock. If you have to have an aftermarket air filter in there, I would go with a street filter not a race filter. They flow almost the same volume but the street has to be safer.

Sorry to hear you had some problems with the fly removal. Sounds like you did everything you could do to get them out intact. I like your solution. Much better than drilling out the screws. You won't eveer be putting them back in so don't worry about that.

That bloody fingers pic is making me think of the "Monster Energy Drink Gixxer Guy" (see posted in Off Topic). I can't see a bloody finger without wincing in horror any more.

Before you toss out the stock air filter, dust it off lightly and try pulling out the perforated, metal plate on the bottom side. Some people have done that to improve flow while maintaining good filtration. If you like, you could buy a new one and pull the plate on it.

So, what did you use for the gasket on the headers? OEM? Liquid gasket? Both?

Ya I think I'm going to stay with an oem airfilter, 2 hp isn't worth poor filtration to me. I wasn't going to use the liquid gasket that came with it but I decided to last minute when I was installing the headers. It's kinda funny when I was installing the headers I would have swore they sent me the wrong kit, I wasn't lineing em up right and it was driving me nuts. Its gunna be a breeze since you pulled the radiator. I didn't do it because I have a set of pretty neat flexible extensions so it was no biggy. I still havent even ridden it yet.

Update us after you ride that thing!!!! I bet after you ride it you're going to be like !!

Just go ride it it won't hurt the bike without the PC. The lean part is part throttle low rpm. Just go beat on it. I cut out the screen off my stock filter. A clean new filter is also important they recommend 12000 miles but that is bs to me. Maybe 4-5K miles and its dirty and slowing you down.

Does anyone recall the "lean" zone in stock mapping for the G1? It is rich at higher rpm, that I recall. If you have to ride, I think you are best to run it at 6K and higher where you have more fuel to compensate for increased flow.

Power Commander came in today. Fixing to install it and get a jeffo map. haha Flame on!

Hey, SAMBEAUX, I love it!!! So you too had the dreaded 'fly' battle? I nearly pulled my hair out pulling those flies. All worked out, but man, what stress! Certainly worth it in the end.

The screws are Not Phillips, they are JIS Japanes Industrial Standard. A cross head screw that looks

like a Phillips. Google JIS Screws and go from there purchasing the JIS screw drivers for all metric motorcycles.

^^I looked all over Milwaukee and couldn't find a JIS. Not even radio control shops had them. A brand new 10" #2 screwdriver with black grit coating on the tip seats in there really nice and snug. I can't imagine a JIS working any better.

I had the same dilemma. It took a while before it occurred to me that all the headers will lead straight over to the rear brake side of the bike with a 4-2-1. I was so used to looking at that at stock system.

Kind of freaked me out how close the lower fairing lays over the midpipe. It's almost touching. I had no problem with it being damaged, however.
