190/55 vs 190/50?
12/05/12 3:11 PM

Hello everyone..new to the forum and to the land missile that is the ZX-14.
I was just curious to know if anyone has replaced the rear tire with a 190/55 VS the 190/50 that comes stock.
wondering if its helped any with the turn in or if it has any ill effect on the traction control, most of my other sport-bikes have benefited from the 55 ratio as far as patch contact and turn in.
Thanks,

Thanks for the response Romans, does your ZX have traction control and if so hows it reacting with the different tire?

I have a 190/55 rear tyre fitted currently, didnt really notice much of a difference, maybe a little quicker to turn in to corners, certainly no stability problems.

Great to hear Neil, sounds like no negatives going from the 50 to a 55

Sparky, the move to the 55 seems to be the standard for getting a lighter turn in on our 14s. Many have done it and like it.

Running slicks on the street would be suicide around here.

With the amount of rain and sand that accumulates on the roads and intersections here...NO thanks I'd rather go with the 200/55 ZR17 Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP and even then. Now for trowing it around a track

Rofl,,, Not the first time I've heard this. If it's fun, I'm all in. Wish you guys were closer.

Lol, Not far off. How Many Miles = Not Many. All street.

Guys I went through 5 tires in 8000 kilometers. Most due to map building,,,then the hook set in of a little drifting,,, All bad, but still doing it. Can't stop. I'm having a ball with boost. Most fun I have had on a street bike bar none.

As for Tires, All my fault, but most won't stick on street pavement so the move to sticky seemed natural. The 190/60/17 works great to solve my issue of turn(being extended)in.

My experiment is as follows, drop pressure to 20lbs PSI for Extreme hook, 40 lbs Amazing turn in. For a Extended Dual Purpose Turbo Street bike this is my only trick that is given me the best of both worlds. I ride this bike on the street every day. Tried to get to the track but time not on my side. Kids, work, Life,,,, U Know.

Click on size Range and Pricing. Could Go get Better Pic But it's cold lol Will make effort.

First off let me tell you Not Even A Mad Man could take a extended ZX-14 Turbo and roll the edges off a tire this sticky. I wish I had the talent to take that kind of credit, but sorry, No Can do. You would need a New radiator in turn 2.

These tires are take offs from Kawi Race team. Look at the shape of this tire. You want the 14 to turn, this is your ticket. No Shit. You will never make the claim the big girl wont turn Ever Again. It's a Wow.

Romes...I may just have to give yer choice a go.....eventually...hell...why not...can't hurt, right? They grip okay for street?Like traffic and such...?I wouldn't be trying burnouts or anything...Just regular takeoffs...but probably harder turns.

Grn, my thinking is the ZX-14 is a Torque Monster of which there is no equal. So, with that being said, trying different tires is something we will All have many, many chances to do. So why not ? As far as grip goes, this tire warms up extremely fast. On the street it's the only Tire I can't spin with out hard on off throttle. Then it's a wheelie. Weird as it may sound it has lasted Me the longest. Like Rook posted above keep moving who is going to see it ?????

Keep In Mind, Rain on a long trip Will Not Be Your Friend.

I actually did get the impression that she lasted longer...I'm down for that!;)And rain?Nope...not often enough to worry about that.I usually pull off or speed up to avoid....which has worked pretty good for me so far.I HATE getting pelted with oncoming Semis full of dirty cut trees!

I normally run a 55 but I'm thinking of going back to the 50 and just lowering my forks a 1/4" and I'm told this will make it turn in quicker and that way I still have the better gearing of the shorter tire. I no its not much but it's something to try. Not really a big deal as I blow out my TC2 in 4500 miles anyways.....
