Lol, I know, lol Maybe is me, but for the past four or five years, people are jacking up prices on ebay.
I NEVER put in a bid on fleabay until 5 seconds before the auction ends. I give it one shot and I usually win. Putting a bid in early just encourages others to bid and the price goes up. I think I'm what they call a "Sniper".

I played World of Warcraft for a long time. Back in the day, Collectors Edition of the original release version were not all that expensive. Ok, they were, but today they are virtually impossible to obtain still in the shrinkwrap.
Three times I used EZsniper (a service) to buy CE copies on eBay, and won every time. EZsniper uses a computer program to watch the page with your item, and it can read the "time left" and at 5 seconds to do it puts in your bid, not more than your max, but not more than enough to win either.
Beats having to be awake at 3am when the auction ends.
I haven't done it for years, I don't play games much anymore. Diablo III but I beat it on two difficulty modes so far and am losing interest.

I've done that manually. I wonder what would happen if more than one bidder was using the sniping program mand both had the same bid? Mmmmmm

Danno, can only talk about EZsniper. If you try to queue it for a url (auction items on eBay has a unique URL and item number) EZsniper will not let you do it and issue a message to that effect. Since you have to have an account at EZsniper, they can keep you from bidding against yourself that way. Heh.

Not talking about biding against myself, just the small possibility that two bidders with the same max bid both would have the sniping program.
I got a key blank last night for 16 cents shipped by waiting until the last second to bid. Probably cost 5 bucks to get it cut, but now I'll have one to let go with the cursed locking gas cap I removed last week.
