Hey mang. Saw your post earlier today... didnt reply figuring the gurus would ride to the rescue. They're probably busy helping others so i will take a stab.
First... it would help if we knew exactly which scooter you owned... i'll assume its a 14.
From the service manual it would appear that the overflow drain port in the top of your tank is connected to a nipple at the
bottom of the tank via a hose... that is inside the tank itself. Now... the way i see it there are two possibilities: the hose is disconnected from the
port at the top and is laying loose inside the tank, or there is a hole in the hose half way up the length.

Im sorry k20 i dont know first hand. Im just interpreting what is in the service manual. But it would make sense that the hoses
can replaced... probably have to remove the fuel pump to gain access.

My 2008 leaked out the overflow hose (down on the left side, where all the vent tubes hang) when I filled up too high on warm days.
Especially if I filled to the slosh grate and then left it sitting on the side stand, with the sun beating on it.
Once I got a center stand, I tried sitting it up on the center stand, and it never leaked again.

If that drain tube wasn't broken, where would that pressure get released to in a properly working bike?
I'm taking a break from it until Sunday.
That was the last thing he said.
The answer to his question is.......
IT WOULDN'T!
...and I told him to stop F'ing with it and buy a new tank. Hope he is ok. I sorta stopped trying after a while. We all learn in different ways .. Some learn by listening and some learn by doing. Doing is often the best but there sure is no substitute for listening when it comes to learning about stuff that explodes..

Hi all
Yes I took a break form it until Sunday. The drain tube in the tank has a crack or leak.
Solution...buy a new tank.
or Plug drain hole at bottom nipple so fuel cant get out then plug drain hole at the top so that water can't get into the tank and so that fuel can't be forced up the tube filling up around tank filler area. As long as you don't ride in heavy rain or wash the tank with a hose you are fine.
I have run several tanks of fuel since the fix with no issues. Still working on Kawi to get a replacement. It will likely take many more complaints before it becomes a recall. They had a similar problem with the zx12 tanks and it eventually became a recall.
I used a nylon screw in the top of the tank.
I simply cut the drain tube about an inch away from the nipple leaving enough room to put in a screw and then zip tied both the screw and the rubber over the nipple just to be sure of no leaks.
Oh and rook.....I didn't just give up and buy a new tank. I found a solution that only cost me a few cents.
