I test rode a Victory Hammer today as part of their traveling road show. They were at Kent Powersports in San Antonio owned by Jeff Kent former Pro Baseball player with the LA Dodgers. The Hammer is a bit smaller than some of their other models. This is the bike that has the 250mm rear tire, and skinny front, and 106 ci engine. What a DIFFERENT style of bike. I was wondering where the motor was as I am used to instant torque, and rev-ability to the moon and back. However, I started off and was immediately impressed with it's size! I mean I felt at home! It's big, brutal, and sounds wicked cool (it had performance pipes on it) and it takes tremendous effort to steer it, not too much for me as I am weighing in at 250+ these days, and at 6"2, but, it took a steady pull on the bar to initiate the understeer. Forget front brakes on this bike even though it has two disks, use the back brake. It's got a good squirt of power at about 3500 rpm to the 5100 redline...yeah, 5100 (or close to it) redline! The 6th gear is way high, never need it unless you are just 'cruising'.
I think my next bike is going to be one of these big cruisers, that will nearly round out my stable (our stable) of bikes to chose from; CBR954 (track), WR450, ZX-14, and Ducati 800SS, and of course the little NSR50 and TTR230 as 'play toys'.
