You are required to show license, ins., and reg. when asked for it at a stop, because they are a requirement for you to be driving on the road. In some states, by refusing to show ID, he could have been arrested, the car impounded, and searched. At minimum, you can be detained until your identity is determined in any state, even to the point of fingerprinting on site.

Your right wolf, most of the cops have an attitude, even though I am always respectful and coperative, and I dont live in a high crime area, I understand that some cops work in real bad neighboorhoods, but, still, unless you give them a reason, they should not act like an ass, on the other hand, I have met a few cool ones, and I do mean a few, also, cops in general are kind of hypocritical, my wife was at a highway patrol party one time, and they were doing coke, and other drugs, no lie, and they speed all the time when they are not even on call, I have seen them do it, I even followed them many times (at a distance) and saw them pull into non-crime activity places, like burger stands etc ... Just a fact, not all of them, but a lot do ...
