GTR 1400 flies
10/04/10 4:27 AM

Can anyone help? Will pulling the flies from a GTR 1400 make a difference like in the ZX? My mate has an 07/08 and he has asked me to find out. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to www.cog-online.org and post to the appropriate forum. He will probably have to create a logon to do it.

This is the Concours Owners Group, and they are VERY active. If anyone knows, they would. I know some of them have put PowerCommanders on.

In fact, I'm leaving in about 2 hours for a 4 day Fall Rally in Natural Bridge VA with the COG folks, going to be a bunch of us there. They let me ride with them, I think they think my little ZX14 is "cute". Heh.

That was my intention, so I could sport tour. And now I can with the best of them.

Some of the COG guys at the Rally were bragging about their C14s because they pulled the flies and put PCs on them, and I let them go on and on, then said very low key, "That is my ZX14 over there, it makes more horsepower at the rear wheel than your C14 makes brake horsepower (at the crank). And handles better too due to better geometry."

So we all moved to my ZX14, and they gaped for a minute, then fell all over themselves saying what a good job I had done on it.

Now we are COG buddies. Heh. They are a great group. Some techno guys, some Bohemians (Beatniks) who love Guzzis, and everything in between.

Way to go! Don't you just love the ZX? Mine is gonna look like a GTR on the 12-14 Nov. cause the side luggage is getting put on for a 1600 mile ride. Really looking forward to it. How often do you lube your chain when you do a long ride? I lube mine every morning before I ride again, and without a centre stand it really is a pain. Cheers.

Fortunately I have an OEM centerstand. Off the subject a moment, I had my doubts about the centerstand stop provided by Brock's with the CT-DUAL exhaust system. But, it does work great. Though I might still put the Ti-Force stop on instead over the winter, since it has the rubber bumper like a stock stop.

As for lubing, it all depends. I use good quality chain wax. Heat the chain up with a trip around the block, apply the wax, let it dry. All done.

I let it go for a couple hundred miles, then clean with kerosene on a rag and re-wax.

When I went on this trip, I just did it the night before leaving, and then when I got back.

Having spent close to a month touring western Europe (from England to Assin Holand to Nice France and side trips to Italy and Spain then back to England for the long flight home) with my ZX11, I learned you can ride the piss out of them for a whole month with little worry. Sure, I stretched the chain, but the lube wouldn't have stopped that.

These days, it gets done when I inspect it and decide its dirty or dry. Which could be weeks between waxing.
