Will a PCV work on a 2008
09/01/09 12:20 PM

I'm about to buy this PCV and I noticed that it says "2009 and newer!" I called Power Commander this morning and they said they only endorse use of a PCV on 2009 and newer. That leaves wiggle room for adaption.
So anyone done it yet??

Also, there is a lack of information being posted as to how well Auto Tune works. Would anyone care to comment on how they like their Auto Tune mod?

I cannot say for sure, but so far, I have read and I do know for a fact, some fuel cutters are not made, "In House." Therefore, DJ being clueless over the phone is the alleged tech is not in the house or has left the building? If made in house, would you not think around the water cooler, we would get a straight answer; have the same wire harness/telemetry since day one?

Parts is parts and they [factory] have yet to change the throttle body having the same fuel system as an '06. So if the Pc5 works for an '09, then it for sure fits an '06, down to a 1999. Is the Pc5 only for a 14? No. Then are the Pc5'zzzz made for other brands? Yes.

That is my guess if the parts have not changed off this engine family

I have had my PC5 installed in my 08 for over a month and it works great. Farmer and a couple others also are using the PC5 on G2s for several months now. There is no problem. Plugs match up and PC5 maps work for 08 models as well as 09. Go ahead and buy it.

for my 08 I bought PC 5, Autotune, and a pair of Yosh R77 slip ons with carbon tips and titanium sleeves, shipped, FOR LESS THAN MY LOCAL CANADIAN DEALER WANTED TO RAPE ME FOR JUST A PAIR OF YOSH R77's

http://fuelmotousa.com/pcvretrofit.htm

fuelmoto also loaded an appropriate starting map for the Yosh R77's.

worth checking them out, the prices were best I could find.

Laverda1200 - The Fuel Moto site claims they are selling a "retrofit" model of the PCV with maps that work for 08 models. Rook says the PCV 09 maps work on the 08, which I find easy to believe. The list of available maps, at DynoJet is the same for 08 PCIII and 09 PCV. So is Fuel Moto just blowing smoke to make sales?
Also, I've read a couple of complaints that Fuel Moto is poorly responsive for customer support. What's your experience with customer support?
Thanks, Sharkey

"retrofit"??? I remember asking about that when I ordered. I don't recall what the explanation was. What I got came in a box labeled "17-012 PCV,09 KAWASAKI ZX-14R" I told them 08 ZX-14, flies out, stock exhaust, no other mods. I don't know if the map is the same for my 08 as it is for the 09 but I don't see why it would be different. Anyway, the main point is that the PC5 works great on my 08.

As far as customer service, well, i hate to add to their less than stellar rep but my experience was that they move pretty slow in sending out new maps to customers. If you email them the request form, you may have to call them several times before they move. It could take a couple weeks. They were very prompt in delivering my order and everything was correct. Just the map thing I hear about. If that's the only customer service issue and it is resolved through persistence, I wouldn't cross them off the list for that. Be patient and pleasant. Their maps are provided to customers for free, after all and they are very good I hear. I am real happy with mine.

Both '08/'09 bikes use the same wire harness #'s, same ECU part numbers. www.PartShark.com

Thanks Rook. Bottom line is OK
Hub you're all business Dude. If the harness and the ECU are the same then that's all there is to it.

Now, with regard to Power Commander I'm going to make a big guess as to what they are up to. They're not endorsing the PCV for the 08 model because.......they have to sell all the PCIII's they've already produced. They're going to phase out the PCIII but if they say the PCV is for 08 models they loose that market for the PCIII's and they're left with too many in stock for what's left of the 06-07 market.
That's my guess. Anyone else got an idea?

^^That's the story I've been hearing all along. I imagine maps for the PC3 will always be available. They are not compatible with the PC5 but there are maps for the same mods/bikes available now for the PC5. I heard early in the year that Brock was working on getting all his maps up to date for the PC5 and I would imagine he has that taken care of by now.
