Shock reservoir question
03/09/14 12:20 AM

Gonna stick my neck out here...and ask anyway.Okay, when installing my Ohlins rear shock,I didn't realize the compression reservoir had to be pushed up through the swingarm hole BEFORE the shock was hooked up.Not knowing this...I installed the shock first...thinking the reservoir would fit through the spring/shock hole with the shock installed(the preload adjuster DID slide up through there with the shock installed).I 'thought' I could possibly turn the comp line a bit,so the unit and line would not be trying to go in there sitting next to each other...long story short,I loosened the banjo on the unit just a wee bit,to turn the line.I allowed a split second of fluid and pressure to escape out the banjo...but immediately tightened it back up...only a very small amount of fluid came out...not even an 1/8 of a teaspoon.Less than that...it was a quick 'mist'...that was all.Can anyone here tell me with certainty IF I've screwed up my new shock unit?Haven't been able to ride her yet...It was just a split second of misting and gas...nothing serious(I hope). Thanks in advance guys.....It actually CAN be turned,I just loosened it a shade too far....

Yes shock will need to be regassed, you might get away with not having to check the oil level. But due to the small amount of Nitrogen stored in the shock, better to get it checked. What were you thinking???
The nitrogen is stored in the shock at an extremely high pressure.

+1 I just barely have an idea of what this stuff even looks like but I'd send 'er back and get 'er charged up like new. Then you get a second shot at installing!! If you're going to have downtime, this is the time of year to have it.
