What is the 14-R's MPG?
05/14/13 7:37 PM

Why is my gauge not working? I thought it dropped down but something is not right.

Left with 119 on the speedo.
Stopped for gas with 220 miles on the speedo.
Filled up with 2.014 gallons.
I was on average about 65mph.
That means sometime over 70 for a touch.
Sometimes under 65 slowing for traffic.
I was also in F-1 mode.
I am basically stock w/out piggy.

Is my math right?>>> Is why you are going to do it for me. Say it can't be!

On my last long road trip on the interstate and improved highways; averaging around 70 mph or maybe a touch more; in hot weather; stock fueling and stock pipes; running mode of F1; I was amazed to see 45 mpg for long periods. On shorter runs of 50 to 100 miles, out of the hills and onto relatively flat terrain, could average over 50 mpg for periods of time.

High 20's to low 30's mpg is more like my usual short blasts on secondary roads.

So, yeah, your results don't surprise me. You could be getting 50 + under the conditions you describe.

My guage also seems to be inaccurate. But i didn't really expect it to be. LOL

WHen it gets down to one or two of them little bars, I fill up.

But the bike seems to chug gas like its going out of style. But, I didn't get it for fuel economy. Drink up, ol' mighty 14, DRINK UP, baby!

I think you're doing most excellent if you're getting that much...my highest has been around 50 something...but not sustained for long.I think maybe you could be getting that mileage....maybe?

When the "E"starts to flash in there is supposed to be 1 US gal left in the tank

Grn ~ I rather have some real players at this. Real data. Legal riding. Mods mentioned. Who can squeeze a gallon out of this bike and are mods better served and chased after? That's basically it in a nutshell. You in for a few tanks of keeping within limits? It's not like you have to keep right on the speed limit. Blowing a few miles of get it out of your system is part of the data.

Dar ~ That's something I should have thought of. What I mean is, I'll drain the tank with a siphon hose. Wait for the E to come on. Measure what is left? Someone used to keep a low amount of fuel in their bike and burned out the fuel pump. How many miles did that take to happen for the pump to fail, I don't want, nor need to find out.

Flashit; pipeshit; piperclothshit; regularshit; premiumshit; oil changeshit; chain lubeshit; tireshit; same 'ol shit.

Hub when she starts flashing it takes 18.1 to 18.2 litres to fill depending on how soon I get to a station. When cruising 120 to 130kph, plus some efficient passing,I did 385 km about 10km walk short of a gas station. It is very hard to check maximum range,I just can't make my throttle hand behave, maybe on some 800km days trying to make distance I'll find out her best range

It starts flashing at .8 gallons.THAT's the 'reserve'.So if you're getting 45 mpg('current')...the fuel guage IS accurate.Riding around in 'avg' mode is not the best way to assess your MPG.(IMO)

When I fill up with one bar remaining on the fuel gauge I always take on 4.0 - 4.2 gallons. My fuel economy meter displays between 42 and 45 MPG routinely unless I'm out hotdogging. My economy will drop down to about 35 MPG when acting the fool.

My odometer routinely covers 165 - 175 miles between 4 gallon refuel events which puts my economy in the 42 MPG range. Based on this information my fuel economy meter is fairly accurate.

My other 2012...when the meter was flashing, and had been for a good ten miles at least...I filled her up to the top of the neck...she took 5.5 gallons.

my mpg said 49 mpg on a 150 mile trip, mostly keeping it at 80-90mph, mostly motorway/highway, with one blast up to 140 mph ,afterwards i calculated the amount of petrol i used vrs my actual milage done, and my true mpg was 49.9mpg
i was trying to keep it as smooth and steady as possible, tucked in and progressive use of throttle, my normal riding day has a lower return of mpg, but this trip was mostly curiousity as to what mpg i could get

You guys are way ahead of me. I generally fill up at 140 miles and take 4 gallons. All city and country roads with an occasional short blast on the freeway. I have never seen 50 mpg on my gauge unless I am coasting or going downhill.

My real world data, in case anyones curious. Hope the format doesn't screw it up. These numbers are for a whole tank, I always try to fill up to the same level in the tank.
