PCV ground
09/02/09 9:42 AM

My ground wire will no longer reach to the coolant reervoir since i repositioned the PC under the seat. I was thinking this screw (my thimb is pointing to it) might work for a ground if I sand the paint down below the head of the screw. My only concern is that this screw is in a bolt on part of the frame and paint probably insulates it from the rest of the frame. I mean, if paint is confining the ground to this one bolt on piece, it would be a pretty small chunk of frame. Would that matter?

I'd run a jumper wire from your negative terminal. Then no worries.

^^Yeah, Dogo, I was thinking the same thing except maybe running the extension wire to the recommended location under the coolant reservoir. The battery is actually a lot closer. Be nice to use the screw I have indicated in the pic because it's all set to go.

Thanks. Electrical stuff is not usually easy to figure out without some background knowledge. Mechanical things, at least I can see and feel.

That will be my next move if i don't get any definitive answer. See, I could really brush up on my basic princples of electronics because I'm not entirely certain what a ground does, i just know everything electrical has one. I was afraid maybe the grounding qualities of this piece might fluctuate because of the paint isolating it from the rest of the frame. Or worse, maybe the PC would operate without being grounded and I would never know. See, I am pretty clueless about electronics but i can follow directions pretty good.

Tomorrow, I'll file that spot of paint down and try it.

Blue07 has just confirmed that the screw indicated in the above photo is the place he has grounded his PC for some time now. File away the paint under the screw an ground away.
