Givi 56L top case - why/why not
08/28/15 12:21 AM

I have the Givi 46L top case installed. I want to get the Givi 56L top case because I want to be able to pack 2 helmets +. Is there any reason I "shouldn't" go for the bigger case? Keep in mind that the helmets I want to fit are both modular, so by default, they're a bit larger than a standard helmet. So far I haven't run into any problems with the 46L at speed (140mph give or take). I know it might look funny, but so what. I can take it off when I feel self conscious.

Pros/Cons?

New member here. Just got my '14 ZX14R ABS and one of the first farkles I bought was an SW Motech Alu Rack, so I can mount either of my Givi top cases (V46 or E55). For me, a road bike is pretty much useless without hard luggage. I ride with the smaller V46 most of the time and switch to the E55 on trips or for times I need larger capacity.

I have ridden with either top case on my other bikes at triple digit speeds with zero problem. There are some who suggest having a top case actually helps with aerodynamics, the same way having a tail gate up actually improves mpg slightly on a pickup truck, as counter-intuitive as that might be.

Anyhow, if I didn't have the E55 already, I'd go for the new V56.

My .02 (and it's even cheaper than that, it free) is there's no "might" about it loking funny. It *def* will look funny.

But, as long as you dont mind, and dont mind the noise, well, neither do I! I'd still ride with ya.

Why stop at 56L? How 'bout SEVENTY?!! (OK 68.5 ... but still, 22% more!)

Here's the link to it: http://corbin.com/kawasaki/kc8trnk.shtml

Merely $993.

anyway, I think i will go with the v56l. revzilla currently doesn't stock the one i want. i should've waited for it to come out because unless its unGodly large, i don't imagine taking it off except for hard rides. i wouldn't need to worry about whether or not to sell the v46l. thanks for the input!

THanks, mebgardner.

Just got my SW Motech top rack installed, so here's it is with my V46. Unless you are just hurting for cash, I would keep the V46, if I were you, kixxit. For me, my E55 is a bit too large for daily use. V56 is larger still.

Volfy, I have the same bike. That V46 looks much better than I would have guessed, good setup!

Thanks. The red cover I have on the V46 doesn't match the accents on the bike exactly, but close enough. The matt black wasn't my first choice, as I'm normally not a big fan of flat finishes, but the more I look at it, the better I like it.

If I could fit 2 modular helmets in it, plus a bit extra, I think I'd be perfectly happy with the V47. But in order to get the helmets in I have to scratch them up - even with the covers! I like having one bag besides my backpack that I can detach and bring into whatever hotel room I'm crashing in for the night. I think I'm going to do a bit more research on the tank bags. If I can keep a decent tool kit and a few other smaller items in it (and a sammich, can of soda, snickers bar.....) that might be enough to keep me from the V56L. I don't need new hardware to use it, so i'm still considering it.

Well i had a largish top case (2 helmet size) & found the bike gets unstable around 250kph, dropped on a smaller 1 helmet case and she seems okay upto around 280. But not gonna push it any more than that. hahaha

Is it 47L? If so I already have that size. I'm looking for 56L.
