Michelin Pilot Power 3
06/13/13 5:43 PM

Beautiful weather day here in the neighborhood! Just had my old Pilot Road 3 tires replaced with the Pilot Power 3 tires and a 55 profile rear instead of 50.

Was busy today but wanted to "scrub the new tires" a bit to get rid of the slippery newness over the siped area at least. Thought I'd get a few miles on it and let it sit over night to check air pressure retention before getting it out on the back roads tomorrow for some longer break-in.

Well guys, 95 miles later, I have to say that I love the new tires already! Now the weather is perfect today so I do not know how they will do on wet surfaces yet (Pilot Road 3's were marvelous in the wet) but the Plower 3's are, to date, the best tires I have tried on dry roads! The higher profile is responsible, I assume, for the way the bile rolls over into the turns and more easily changes direction mid-turn but the traction was confidence inspiring from the 'git-go'!

No worries taking the slippery new off the treads and enjoyed every second; made several different loops of the back roads and spent straight-aways weaving aggressively within the legal lanes (when the way was clear and the law was not in sight).

For touring, the Road 3's are hard to fault; I can't do it at any rate. They really did it well and they showed little wear with some pretty long miles on super highways as well. I don't expect these Power 3's to return that kind of mileage, but I'm not planning on going to the coasts this year either. I left the old tires at the shop for someone there to use or for them to give to someone who mounts their own tires. I pay to have them mounted and there was not enough mileage left to meet that expense. I wouldn't have changed them out quite so soon (7 thousand miles) if I weren't going on a short trip soon into the twisties. I expect the new tires will make the next sport touring trip just that much more enjoyable.

If you haven't slipped on a 55 rear, you might really want to experience it. And, if you are looking for a new set of road performance tires, the Power 3's seem promising.

Cheers!

I was running Pilot Roads on my 08 and was getting 11,000+ miles out of them but when I wore out the Metzler M5's at 4950 miles on my green 2012 the Pilot Road was no longer available, so I went with a set of Pilot Road 3's. I have been pleased with them and am about ready to mount a second set. The first set lasted 9500 miles and the second set is near 9000 miles now. The second set is also a 55 profile and I am really pleased how quickly they turn. Next time I may mount a set of Pilot Power 3's if they can deliver long miles. I would inform all that the 55 profile is the way to go.

21744,
Bro that post is confidence inspiring, that's why I got the 55's for some manouverability.

As sidebar, I moved to a 43 tooth sprocket in the rear to compensate for the taller stance of the new rubber. Did you experiement with this 217?

Rez out!

Have to agree, I am a BT-016 Pro guy but recently had to have an emergency front tire change, hit a 2x4 at about 110 and cut the tire on the rim. Local dealer had only the Pilot Power 3 in stock so I bought it. Great tire, I now prefer it to the BT-016. Turn in is crisp and light with great mid turn stability. I may become a Michelin man!

Just spent 48 miles scrubbing in my new power 3's! 190/55 rear. Absolutely the best performance investment for me to do first! The turn in is more than crisp! I have my suspension set up on the firm side and turn is so sharp I have had to reset my thinking on that first clipping point! These tires turn in with so much confidence! That comes from the larger contact patch created by the profile combined with stickier rubber at that angle! No squidginess I compound change! Nothing but G R I P! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, that just slipped out.

The front is a 120/70 and a very nice round contour that lends itself to stability. I cannot say enough about these tires! F those metzlers! They were like a fing handicap! I love the taller profile rear! It is taller enough over stock 50 that it effectively encourages that 'fall' into apex. Fing awesome!

Allright, more riding, more input. The rear tires profile is enough higher that I notice it at stop lights, little more on my toes. The increased weight over the front is welcome and required a slight increase in front preload to bring my sag back in line. Rear is slightly firmer in feel and showing about 1mm less sag. I like it.

Now I will say it in English. THESE TIRES ARE AWESOME!

Allright! Pushing her harder now!! Wow! Tires are making my TC work better. Here is what I think, I was getting interupt from the tc in mode 2 killing my hard drives. I believe that was because the stockers were slipping a lot more than I realized and tc had to intervene sooner and more aggressively. NOW the tc in mode 2 is a compliment to my off corner drives allowing marginal slippage and a way more progressive interruption sequence. Tires make a massive difference on this bike! Day should warm up here after 11 and I'm gonna go play in mode 1 and off.

Yo, that's my next tire... I got Mich Road 3's this round due to touring plans.
Hey I never ride in TC with the flash. The highest intervention I do, is TC 1...
Glad you're enjoying the bike my broth, you must be a vortex force on those roads...

I dipped her pretty good yesterday on the street and touched down foot peg pipe exhaust in that order! :))))

It's hard as shit to tell from a photo fellas, but that level of marking on my tire (190/55) translates to about some serious shit lean angle on the street for a second there. :)))) it felt like I could have easily snagged elbow if I had been trying. :))

Bear in mind, tires are new, I will buff those bitches to the edge on the street, just gimme a little time! I was taking her easy actually trying to gauge grip at lean etc. doing deeper and deeper dips to see where she was at leaned hard trying to scrub a little newness off before getting aggressive.
