Come on man tell us how you like the new bmw. I've been watching you on the other site and saw you got a new exhaust. So pleaseeeeeeeee compare the new 1000 vs the 14r. Power.....feel......fun factor......hell man everything. I'm waiting on your response to see if I'm going that route also.

It was probably a total flop compared to the 14 and he is now too embarrassed to tell us....

Thanks for asking. You are contemplating getting a BMW?

NICE! If you do, you'll join the *illustrious few*. I think that'll be about five of us, then. We need to start a riding club of 14R/RR owners....
Anyway............

Getting off of one and then right on the other can be a bit dangerous. Your reflexes and riding facets are adjusted to one, then you are on a contrasting bike......I learned to take it very easy for the first hour or so, when quickly changing.........Especially from the RR to the 14R.

The BMW is obviously alot more nimble and better at cornering. Even I can corner on it, so that is saying something as to its handling qualities! And practicing on my cornering and control of the bike in twisting roads is SOO much fun.

More bar vibration on the BMW, especially at 4K. The engine runs hotter and gets your leg rather warm!!! More tiring riding position, as well. Not really what I"d call a smooth comfortable riding bike, but when compared to the 14R, you wouldn't expect it to be, right?.......But its pure Hell on wheels. The BMW has a mindblowing power surge, but you gotta get into up in between its legs to hit it. Get up above 7-9K rpm, and its like a missle on wheels. In fact, you actually find it hard to have enough open road to get it up to 13K rpm, cause its so fast getting up TO that speed, you are outta road by the time you hit the REAL power..........LOL But that said, its not really as lacking mid range as you'd think, either. Not an impressive amount of brute torque mid range, no, but not lacking, either...... Very fun to ride bike with many cutting edge electronic and handling features, and an amazing looking, unique style to it that EVERYone stares at, or comes up to and has to ask you about.......Riding it is like having a 25 year old Pam Anderson on your arm......... .And the Akrapovic shorty exhaust is VERY loud. Louder than the Brocks' CT Duals I have on the 14R. Different sound, entirely, obviously. Booth sound great, though.

THe BMW is actually more fun to me right now than the 14R. But that is probably cause I have less time on and its still very new to me. I do mostly town riding, so its easier maneuverability is more fun while riding around town with other riders. Once I am more used to it, I am sure the enjoyment factor will balance out a bit.

The 14R, I took the little woman for a cruise yesterday. There is no replacing it. What it does, it does better than any bike can.......... With its power, which is on tap, all the time. Alot more smooth, stable *don't worry I got you, buddy* type ride on the 14R. MUCH smoother and more stable.. It feels almost like a laid-back harley riding position in comparison to the BMW's position....And obviously, on the drawback, its weight and wheelbase becomes very apparent when entering the corners and when stopping.(that's why I find it crutial to take care when getting off the RR and then onto the 14R...... cause your reflexes andthe amount of pressure you want to apply to the brake have not yet changed, but the weight has increased by quite a bit, as has the handling requirements)

You can't get as *cocky* with the 14R as you can the BMW, cause it'll get away from you............LOL At least, it would from ME.

If someone can swing it, I highly recommend these two bikes as your *set*. In fact, I can't imagine any better contrasting combo than these two. Each are the absolute pinacle in its respective genra.........I am sure some will disagree with that, but, to each his own. I only read what review after review has said........And I have no desire to try and convince anyone of anything.

I do know, however ,that if you get a BMW RR to go with an existing 14R, the chances are extremely good that your face will hurt from grinning so much, you'll be on one of them every possible free moment you have.........and you'll find yourself going out to the garage in the middle of the night just to *visit*.

WOW great write up my friend, great write up!!!!! Thank you. I thought you would have more fun on the bemmer,it's newer and it's more of a smaller flicking kind of bike. I know straight line power even though they feel sooooo different they are very close, but that's what I miss in the 1000 class....the fun factor. The 14r I can just cruise on and feel like the king of the streets, but on a 1000 you feel like being a hooligain and that usally gets me in trouble and I really don't miss that at all. That's why i'm afraid of getting the bmw or the 10r,the 14r I can just cruise and when I feel like it just pull the trigger and blast off. On a 1000 you seem to get to crazy ALL the time. Thanks again for the write up. And in the future PM me with your feelings about the bmw from time to time when your getting used to it. Like I said PM me so people won't get on your shit about posting about the bmw!!!!!! So in the end you vs you on both bikes who wins?????????????????

Will do.

As for not getting shit from anyone else on here........ I am out to enjoy what I have worked hard for. I am having too much fun as I develop my skill levels on these two top of the class machines to care what anyone else on here thinks about how inexperienced or superficial I may or maynot be. I don't give a f&&k.

Life is good........

I hope you do what makes you happy and if that means getting a hooligan liter bike, to compliment your mightly 14R, I say GO FOR IT! Its a whole different sort of mindset when you start out on the BMW than the Kawasaki. Each amazingly fun, but very different in just about every way.....except impressiveness. Both are VERY impressive and the best at what they each do....

The smoothness and sheer brute force of the mighty 14R doing a quick launch to pass someeone on the interstate gives you such great feeling of having such incredible power at your disposal.......... I am sure you know the feeling!

But feeling the front end raise up on the BMW, as it comes screaming out of a corner......that's also an impressive feeling. I think this bike can raise the front end at, well, just about any speed. LOL

Wow what a cool write up ZX!! I've been on the brink of getting one myself. I really wanted to get the HP4 but after talking to a few BMW dealers I found out they aren't to be had. Our local dealer only has a black one, which is nice but it's not the color I would prefer. Actually it's the one color I don't want. I guess I'll wait until the 2014's come out. I've got 4 other bikes than my ZX so I'm just gonna wait and get one in one of the other colors.

Good luck on what you choose

The 2014 s1000rr are shown on a new thread on the RR forum. Some rather poor looking color combinations if you ask me.

If you get one too, we will have to start a RR/14R convention with semi annual meetings!

Took the big Ninja on a fairly lenthy trip yesterday; longest ride I've taken yet. There were about 15 of us total.......

And a better touring machine you won't find. You all already know this, but this was the first fairly long trip I've taken on the bike since I got it. So excuse me for stating the obvious.

LOL

Anyway, I was amazed and how comfortable it is on longer rides, at how it handles like a dream out on the open road at high speeds as it holds the road so well. Engine just loafs along, as you cruse at 85, barely even working..... Got it up to about 120, and the bike was just getting warmed up. The bike has plenty of grunt to get you where you need to be in heavy city traffic, which I really needed yesterday. And it delivered.

The bike's big feel, while obviously a detriment in cornering and running around town, is obviously a great asset on long rides like I just took. It feels so solid and planted, even when the 18 wheelers's wind is rocking everyone else's bike.

What the RR lacks, the 14R has in SPADES!!!!

Very good words. It's really soooo much at home out on the rode. I catch myself VERY often looking at the speedo and see I'm doing 120 or so and you really can't tell it all!! It's just so freaking stable on the road. Like you said, it's really just gettn warmed up there! You can drop the hammer on it and find yourself in the 160's in a heartbeat!! Fun, Fun, Fun!!

I'm gonna buy a litre bike when the 2014's start coming available. I'll be honest, I've actually started looking at the Yamaha R1 a little. If anyone has some input on that please chime in! I wanna hear it!! Until then I'm gonna ad a 2014 YZ-450F to my Dirt arsenal. Don't get me wrong my top nod is still to the beemer but I've been watching ALOT of the roadracing on TV since my shoulder has been down and MAN they sure seem to dominate alot of that stuff! Gotta be something behind that!

ZxMan, glad my botha you are enjoying the BMW. MY boy got a 1300r and has been eating shit because of it. Like I said to my bro, they make beautiful bikes, and I love all machines with this level of refinement. You're right to enjoy and don't sweat all that bullshit over the 14r loyalists. Remember, the most beautiful bike in the world is the one in your stable and you have two great rides. So, as you posted earlier, "I've worked hard..." now indeed it is time to enjoy them homeboy. Life is short, and we are here for a short time, not a long time. I also appreciated the write up, and thought you did a fine job laying it out.

Always been a fan of this bike, but my 6'3 frame and 240lbs, or 230 lbs depending on the week and my impulse control, just made it sinfully uncomfortable. But, I too, am a fan, and have ridden one. I completed four degrees and worked as a senior leader in my field. I then suffered heart issues and went in for a life altering surgery. I decided right then and there I am getting a new 14r - phuck it! Not looking back and enjoying this ride. Ticker runs almost as well as the bike in 2013!

Take care broski, and Zx racer, I am glad you called out this thread.

Lates boyz....

R1 (2012) is about 20-25 HP down on the BMW or a zx 10 that has the wire clip done, its a great bike, but I think I would miss that HP, but thats just me .... unless there is mod for the R1 that I am unaware of ... I really dont know that much about yamahas ....

You know what pisses me off. You have a 442cc advantage on the 1000s. And the beemer and 10r are right behind us in power. Everybody is so happy with the power of the new 14r, and then you ride with those bikes and your like WTF. The 14r should put out a lil more. Raise the revs a lil or move the powerband just a little. Love the torque but when you weigh 125+ more it does very little in a race sometimes. Perfect example the 1000 has just a 400cc advantge over a 600 and having a gixxer 1000 I can tell you the racing around with my friends on their lil 600s and even 750s...........MY GOD what a killin. So remember you mighty 14r owners dont think those lil 1000 are a lesser bike because if your bike isn't set up right in everyday fuckin around you'll get your ass and feelings hurt.

Zrace, doesn't take much to piss you off does it?

Eh, set up, smet up, there are so many factors that differentiate ride, weight, experience, mods...we could go on forever (my boy C has sea level calculations mapped out too). I don't underestimate litre bikes, but if you read my post carefully bro:

Carab, had an 06 R1 and when compared to the zx it's a brick!
IMO and inline with your perspective...

As an owner of an r1, yosh system, in 06 and an owner of a 14r yosh system, the bike is a brick.

So if it pisses you off, it pisses you off. You don't piss me off, I'm just glad the fight is back.

Talk soon rag doll!

Yea that's kinda what I was worried about. I haven't found anywhere that the R1 was being bragged on over it's HP. I just watch a lot of the racing on TV and this weekend I got into that thinking mode you know? Just kinda Hmmmmmm I wonder if? LOL

Wolf your wayyyyyyyy out of bounds on this. I wasn't even remotely talkin about you AT ALL. So relax my friend. Just stating my opinion on a 1000 thread. And my example is this, back when I had my 1000 I use to have fun riding with my good friend rob (god rest his soul) he had a gsxr 600 worked perfectly for racing around. With gearing and pipedcand tuned and the fact he weighed around 145lb he was a lil beast against ever 600 and even beat a couple of 750s. Now when we would be on the highway just me and him usually, we would fuck around. He would drop a couple of gears and hit it and I remember staying in 5th or 6th and with one hand on the bars and one hand giving the motion of whipping a horse I would just stay with him laughing until I decided to actually give it more than half throttle. And that was my point, thats what a 400cc difference should be let alone 442cc difference. If I tried that with a 1000 I would get blow the hell up big time.

And wolf set up shouldn't matter your right but it does big time. My point is this a bigger heavier guy like you should be able to purchase a 1441cc bike and with little or no upgrading and not as much skill against a better rider on any 1000 you should drop the hammer and be gone just like a 1000cc vs a 600cc does. Hell go to brocks site right now and on the right side of the page under performance news you'll see all the best riders times with all bikes with NO NITROUS NO TURBO NO ENGINE WORK AT ALL. Now for the 14r we have lee pritchard the man is incredible at riding and his time is in the 8.4 at 164. Now right below that is tony ferland on a zx10r with almost identical mods (it also tells all there mods) and he ran an 8.3 165 and I believe he has been faster since. Thats my point when kawi brings out a 1441cc big boy it should beat it's own little brothers 999cc ass and it doesn't at all. That's all rant over. Just giving some knowledge of why I still think mother kawi dropped the ball. And don't even get me started about the busa. It hasn't be touched since fuckin 2008 and on my dyno and others I've seen its down only 14-16hp mod for mod at THE VERY most. Some people aren't even that far ahead.

Wolf is simply stating that fast is fast. A lot of the time when we hear a rider blaming getting his ass handed to him on the equipment or mother Kawi's attitude, it boils down to a lack of balls with the right wrist. Not the case here of course. I'm just saying that if a 10R is faster on a given night at the track in a 1/4 mile increment, that translates to zero in the real world. All the split little 'ready, ready, go' on the street trying to establish some sense of superiority with some weird roll on thing seems ridiculous to me. Just because of my perspective see. When I go up against anyone when riding on the street, I don't look at their bike. I don't care. If I feel in my helmet like assclown is gonna want to race. I hammer down all the wayyy WOT right now. If sometime later he catches up cause I stopped and wants to say I got the jump. Well, be more of a predator than pussy. Pussy pussy pussy.
