Air filter FYI
08/05/14 7:41 AM

Just a heads up for those of you that may be approaching the recommended 11,000 mile air filter replacement.
Here is a pic of mine that I replaced yesterday with 9,638 miles on the clock. Never ridden other than on pavement and never in the rain. Lots of insects piled up on the lower section.
Whew...........thank the heavens for that Brocks fairing removal video on youtube or I'd surely of snapped a couple of tabs. I took my time to be as careful as possible and it took me 3 hours from start to finish. Other than that, I'm still in love with my black 2012!!

That three hours from start to finish was just to change the air filter?

I think it takes more time to just align the tabs near the forman grills and tank cover than all then
other stuff combined ! still not bad at all, and the oil filter and oil change, Easiest ever !

Now the plugs look a little tight, but oh well, the tank doesn't pop up like a hood like the
old busa did, but watcha gonna do ? LOL !

I guess it depends on what part of the country you are in. Im in the New England, my stock filter on the left was at 4500 miles. Still looked Ok.

5300 miles on my 2012 air filter. All paved roads. This air filter is "oiled". Has anyone tried to clean & re-oil it like a K&N air filter?
On my return trip a couple of weeks ago I drove through a clouds of bugs. It was around midnight in eastern Colorado.

I'm sure that is why our air filter is so large, even with the lower half filled with grit and bugs the top half still sucks enough air. This air filter is approaching the mass surface of my 5.4l Ford pickup.

KHI calls it a "viscous element".

Sitting here thinking I should have ordered up a new air filter for when I put my exhaust on. Spent the day putting on my exhaust and didn't touch the filter. Bike is at nearly 9000 miles.
