Horn Mount Help...Going to beat someone down at my repair shop...
07/06/14 12:46 PM

Ok guys, I cannot find it in the manual. How the hell does the horn mount to the front fender? I am guessing that it does because that where it is... flopping around freely only being held on by the front brake lines.

If that is not bad enough, and although I cannot see that it has beat the shit out of the top of my fender I CAN SEE where the bracket had chewed the F@#K out of my radiator.

Words will be had over this GD nonsense.

But in the meantime, with today being Sunday, I need to find a way to reattach it.

Thanks.

thanks Carabuser...
So this thing points down, mounted from the triple tree "area"... right? How the hell did they miss that!?

Here is what happened to the radiator and also a shot up from my back looking at the bottom of the trees, is this the correct location?

The Y shaped mount bracket secures to the bearing area(steering stem lower) above the fender....two bolts...horn on that(should be one assembly(I'm pretty sure)...no hose mounting at all...the DEALER did this?Unconscionable!SHEESH

It's small things like that why I have a my hands and tools only policy. That way the only person I can blame is myself. Shit happens....but usually it's something like a loose battery terminal, a loose horn flying around is unacceptable.

I wonder what else they left loose. I wouldnt ride it until ive ripped it apart and checked every bolt. What did you have serviced on the bike that they took that off? Stem bearings?

Wow thats completely shabby for a shop that should have a manual to tell them where to put it, and if they took it off they should remember where to put it back, just lazy and uncaring. hope everything else is in the right place.

From your pic it looks like you have aftermarket brake lines.
Did they just install those? Could be part of the reason.

They did put my new lines on...

And Grn14, that damn thing was not mounted at all! It was just bouncing on top of my fender... I have no idea in hell how it stayed there without falling off. and it rip the shit outta my radiator, that pic doesnt do it any justice

maybe they took off the triple tree cover to install the lines? The contacts to the horn fit really tight so there is not much chance it would fall off.

Here's a diagram for routing the wire from the gen1 SM.

Note that 3 indicates a place where the wire should NOT be routed through the bracket on the steering stem.

1. Horn Lead
2. Run the right switch housing, horn, headlight and *front wheel rotation sensor leads through the clamp.
3. Do not run the horn lead through the clamp on the steering stem.

Doesn't seem to matter if you have the lead connectors facing the right or the left. The diagram shows right side of bike but mine were positioned to the left.

Thanks guys.

I have unplugged my horn, although the damage has been done. I have appointment this friday. Going to throw my horn at them when I walk in the door I think.ll you know, just for good measure. I dont want them to have any confusion regarding my frustrations.

I hope they get that subtle message? We shall see.

Neve has my tagline seemed more appropriate than now.
