2 Guys, 1 Bike. The Age Old Question....
01/28/13 11:09 AM

Hello All,

This situation has presented itself 3 times since I started riding:

in a nutshell, one of your buddies has bike issues during a ride in which you have the option to leave them on the side of the road while your go and get a truck or trailer or your put 'em on the back of your bike and take them to get the truck or trailer, what do you do?

Each of the 3 situations were slightly different but the end result was I offered to take them where they needed to go.

I think it's different than just going to pick up another guy and going for a nice, scenic, country ride, lol!

If it were me with bike issues, I'd be inclined to stay with the bike while you went to get the trailer. Just can't stand the idea of leaving it sit on side of the road for any length of time at all.

Don't ever leave the bike, around here it will not be there when you return.

Understandable- each situation was different:

1) guy crashed his bike at a local stunt spot and some his bike was loaded on the back of a truck and he was ready to go home 'right now' and the truck owner wasnt ready to leave.

2) guys bike broke down about an hour out on a ride. Parked his bike at a gas station with the assurance of the owner it would be watched

3) guys bike broke down on the way home- about an hour out and we arranged for it to be stored in the auto garage of the gas station. I took him back to his house where he got his truck and went back to get it.

I wouldnt feel comfy leaving my bike on the side of the road either. I would hate to be the guy left to fend for himself in the time of need though.

I've never had the occasion to offer a ride to a male friend but I sure would if there was a breakdown or a crash or any other kind of emergency. In fact, in an emergency, I'd prolly carry a complete stranger as a passenger, male or female.

In a little dif direction, I have thought about offering my 75 year old dad a ride on my bike several times. I know he is very curious about sport bikes. After a couple low speed crashes, he rides a 750 Burgman because his cruisers were getting too much to handle.

I'd offer him a ride but I'm afraid that might result in him asking to take it himself.

Interesting topic.

First I shoot the broken down rider for ruining my ride. Then toss him into the weeds. Second, strip anything good off his bike, then toss IT into the weeds. Enjoy remainder of ride.
( Why don't I have any friends???)

My sargent seat is a single, and my car doesn't have room for luggage, so no rides to the airport either. Oh, and no spare beds!

^^^^LOL None of my friends ride and a few of them have begged me for a ride, for some reason I didn't like the way they were holding on to me when I take 2nd to redline so no more rides. I would help a fellow biker in need but every ride I pray nobody brakes down, mainly for that reason!

If the guy wants a ride, give him one. If he wants to stay with his bike, let him do that. I don't understand what the hangup is. Randy Mamola has been giving rides on a biposto Ducati Desmosedici at MotoGP events for years. I don't think there was ever any mention of Randy or one of his (scared shitless0 passengers being gay.

I would probrably leave a buddy on the side of the road to watch his bike (you don't leave bikes laying around in DFW - cuz they won't be there when you get back!!!!) until I went and got truck/trailer to recover it! Cuz two grown azz men on a bike IS NOT WHAT RIGHT LOOKS LIKE!!! jm2c...

What we have done in the past is,,,,, If your buddy knooooooows his or her bike or snowmobile or whatever, is a piece of shit, yet shows up anyway,,,,he must also know he is going to wreck the entire trip for the rest of the group,,, So, One guy draws short straw and takes or toes him home,,, Abuse goes on 4 ever. Not invited going forward,,, Never leave him.
