Grand Mesa/Moab
07/09/15 10:22 AM

Took about a week from 6/22-6/26 to occupy a campsite and ride around with a bunch of friends with mostly a mixed bag of metric bikes. Had a wonderful time. Piloted 2-up with a hottie for two of the days, made things really interesting with the extra responsibility on the technical roads.

I am ashamed to say that due to my catastrophic domestic situation (currently in late stage of divorce, last two years riding has been extremely limited) that this was the first time I was able to get out and do a real tour on the 14. I have to say, that it is what the bike is for. Absolutely perfect. Triple digits on many occasions naturally, even with pillion (it is just so confidence inspiring), luckily there were no cops, accidents or unfixable mechanical issues for anyone the entire week.

Congrats Toon.
Nothing like getting away with the boys on the bikes.
And when you are on a 14, even better.
Im very impressed that you were away for a week with only a tank bag between you and your pillion.
Were you wearing each others underwear?

Sorry to hear about your personal situation.
All the best with that...

Re: Underwear,

She is between bikes (had a zrx1200) so she drove her car as a support vehicle. Excellent pillion. You can see my luggage including 20 year old Eclipse bags rigged up in the linked photo set. I wanted newer bags but, divorce finances you know. Black Canyon and Moab are day trips from that locale. Interesting thought about the undies though :)

Worth noting, the leaders of the Moab trip which was considerably curvy were a guy on a VFR800 and a gal on an SV650, both seasoned and aggressive riders. I would lag behind in the curves because my idea of an appropriate entry speed was a bit different from theirs, especially with precious cargo, but when the road would open a bit I would drop the hammer and catch up in short order. No matter what I asked from it, the bike would immediately comply and be like 'whatever'.
Love this machine, more touring in the future.

Looks like you had a great trip. Yeah even two up, the 14 hauls the mail like nothing. I haven't noticed a great deal of difference in acceleration either way.
