2012 race rail help
05/15/15 6:35 PM

I have been looking for some speed rails/race rails for my 2012. I have tried the Phoenix race rails, they touched the plastics, and the Hard 905 rails, alignment issues on the right side. Both were suppose to fit the 2012 model but didn't. Am i missing something here ? is their a company that i haven't found yet? Help me out guys !!

I've heard too many stories about sliders causing frame damage in a crash. Those look really cool but I think a basic set of frame sliders would be just as effective in a driveway tip over and be a lot lighter.

I have read a lot of the same stories. Not to concerned with weight but thought with multiple mounting points that it would spread out the load at impact.

I'm a diehard frame sliders guy, but couldn't find anything that inspired confidence for the 2012+ models. The mounting points are crap and it appears as though sliders will do more harm than good. I decided to go without and let my insurance coverage do its job.

I have LSL sliders which have 2 mounting points/side. Another forum member had the same sliders on his Gen1 and they broke the engine mount in a crash. I think it's a choice you make depending on what kind of crash you think you are most likely to have.

I think I saw their website about a year ago. It was a company started by two guys, both highly qualified (they claim--I believe the credentials probably are legit) If this is the same company, they really seem to be top notch in design and testing....but if Spiegler can't get a frame slider that works 100% of the time on a 14, will these guys?

They are very cool lookin'. That's why I keep my LSL (Spiegler) sliders on my bike. They might save the fairings in a crash but they might cause frame damage, too.

Just a small additive.
I have Yoshimura sliders on my Gen2. Fit perfectly first time and do not touch the fairings anywhere.
But they are only a single mount point each.
On my old Gen1, the below link shows what I had which I thought were great. Shame it's not possible on a Gen2.
