Insurance on these is?
12/17/14 3:50 PM

I'm sure this is a well worn topic but need some advice on how to not get raped by my insurance company. Called for quote and it's crazy expensive. Has anyone found the best way for an over fifty, 30 yrs of driving motos w no incidents? I mean progressive must think I was born last night?
Thx

Lots of factors into insurance, but sounds like you need to shop around. Your location may be a high claim area, which will cause your rates to be higher. Progressive and Geico are generally high-risk companies for people who can't get insured with a better company like All State, State Farm, Farmers, Met LIfe, etc.

I pay $640 a year FC, 100/300 with Met Life. I've got quotes as low as $300 for State Farm.

I'm 57 and have liability and comprehensive for $175/year from Allied Insurance. I think collision was another $100/year. I'm in Central Indiana.

#1 factor is your age. In this case older is better!! #2 is where you live and even the ZIP code matters. It's kinda like airline fares, no sense to them.

But it pays to shop around. Rates vary widely between companies. Try an independent agent, they can shop for you.

State Farm. They don't care if it's a sportbike or a harley. They charge by the cc. I've got full coverage on my 2013 for $400some per year.

State Farm also. I think it's about $600/year for collision and comprehensive w/ 1000 deductible because the bike isn't paid off. Whatever it is, Progressive, which gave me a great rate on my ZRX was going to be twice as much.

I'm 46 and have a clean record.

I'm 56 and have Geico, which was considerably cheaper than Progressive. I pay about $500/year full coverage.

p.s.- and I DO have the occasional ticket...

State Farm. They don't care if it's a sportbike or a harley. They charge by the cc. I've got full coverage on my 2013 for $400some per year.

I was cautioned by my current agent about State Farm's policy. When you call for a quote as you're saying, they don't care what type of motorcycle only displacement. They will even sign you up for a policy. However, State Farm does have a list of bikes they exclude too that often results in cancelled policies post facto. If the agent providing the quote does not ensure your bike is not excluded, it could happen a couple months down the road you get a letter stating your bike wasn't insurable. He was a former State Farm agent.

I'm not sure what the big deal is about the list, I'd think they should be able to tell this pretty easily but apparently the agent can still screw things up (seems like it should be computerized..but whatever). The list apparently might vary region to region, state by state.

I'm 40 with no accidents or tickets in the last x years (3 years is what they're asking now). So I have a great record. The biggest cost difference seemed to be the insurance companys. I was quoted as high as $2100/yr, $900/yr, a couple around $600-700, and $300 from State Farm. I also have home and auto policies. I ended up staying with Met Life because overall State Farm wasn't any cheaper ($200 more for home). Also I had a home claim with Met, and they were fantastic and easy to work with. Also due to longevity, I get extra discounts on deductibles and that sort of thing for not having claims on my vehicles or something, I think right now it's $200 off my deductibles if I had a claim.

State Farm has priced my 08 Zx14 to be 220 bucks a month for full courage. My age played a huge factor. Pretty expensive!

I was 27 when I went in to State Farm April of 2013 to put full insurance on a brand new 2013 ZX14R. I'm paying just over $400 a year and they have yet to cancel my insurance cause it's "uninsurable". Eat a dick, Vic.

Why not liability only & uninsured motorist? You just have to eat the crashed parts/eat the total. That, or ride safe and sane.

Vic, maybe he's referencing another thread where he forgot to tell you to eat a dick then, and he figured he'd go on and say it now

Maybe it's just like how he says goodbye.

Most people just say "see ya around" or "take it easy" or something. His valediction is "eat a dick!"
