It seems slow now?
07/15/12 12:28 AM

Today I did some riding and when I went to top it out it seemed to crawl to its top speed(from175-185) did the flies stay closed or just a different day conditions? Also the bike can't really scare me anymore is it the flies or am I getting used to it? Lol

The 14's a super smooth bike with great wind protection for a sportbike, and has a big torquey engine with a wide power spread, they are deceptively fast.......they don't feel near as fast as they really are, and easy to get used to. If it was a peaky, high rpm screamer with a narrow powerband it would feel faster, and take longer to get used to.
My busa was the same way, felt slower to me when I first got it, even tho I walked away from bikes that felt much faster to ride.

I feel the same way. There are times this bike feels like its flying, but alot of the times it doesn't feel as fast either.I thought it was just me.I don't get it either. And i removed my flies yet to me sometimes it feels like there still in. I guess the bike is just soooo smooth.

I think you are on to something Trc, if your 14-14r will not wheelie in 1st gear wot you have a slow one, and zx14racer is getting motor work to correct his slow 14r, maybe that's your answer.

Not slow just getting used to it i guess. What u and guys like smokin have got to understand is we are regular riders. If u lanch the zx from an dig and wip it thru the gears its waaaaay to much for me to handle thats for sure no argument there. But alot of us street riders most of the time we get get on it from a roll on. Like if traffic opens way up or you find a long stretch of road all of the sudden. Then the zx doesnt feel as fast because of its weight and smooth power band. My old 1000 from a roll when it hit up top it felt like it was flying but as we know the new zx would KILL it from that same roll it just doesn't feel like it .

Drag racers really get to put the new 14 thru its paces for a quarter mile. But us street guys very rarely get to use most of its power. Thats why in certain situations it doesnt FEEL as quick. Like i said my 2005 gixxer 1000 only put down 160hp to my 201hp from my zx,sometimes the gixxer felt a lil crazier from the lighter weight and gearing. It would pick up and shake its head sometimes where the zx just pulls like a freight train.

I still havem't hit 185.The roads around here are too short.I got a taller shield and found a new road.I hit 160 a few times.Going to hit that 185 then put my 43 tooth Vortex back on.I'd rather accellerate then do top end.

It's interesting how quickly one can get used to power. It's another reason to always have at least 2 bikes at the same time:) Ride the slower one for a couple of days then hop back on the rocket. Kinda like shooting a 44 magnum for a dozen rounds first if you want your 45ACP to feel soft in the felt recoil dept:)

Hot and humid weather can make your bike slow down a bit as well of course, or just not feel as crisp as it does in cooler temps. I was curious about your exhaust status because I know with my Brocks Full Dual exhaust system vs the stock headers and cans, the power delivery is a bit different. The power and thrust of the bike is more in the upper rpm's, (not that it has gotten slow down low by any means), but the 14R felt a tad more "brisk" from idle through 3K that it does with the full system. Example: used to be able to engage 1st, let out clutch and literally be in 1st gear cruise through a parking lot etc, until I decided to roll on. Now the bike will move forward after letting out the clutch, but no where nearly as cleanly or briskly. I don't consider it an issue of any kind, more of an observation between OEM exhaust/fueling and after market full exhaust/PC5. I will admit though that the "silent" affect of the stock exhaust "may" have given the impression of a "quicker" bike, not necessarily faster, but quicker. No audible feedback vs the throaty exhaust note of the Brocks duals. Of course that isn't your problem though since your bike is stock.

hmmm, I have owned the 14R for a almost a month, it is as you describe above. To date 515 kilometers on the clock. The main reason I don't ride it is,,,,,,,,, Turbo bike. Used to the power now. 14R seems slow in comparison. I know that it's Not. Just have to get my head around it. Want more.

Trc, I can tell you who not to give the job to lol. Care full with boost, it's a sickness. Headache getting started but once you taste that pull U can never go back, just say'in.

A 350whp bike can usually run with a 900whp-1000whp car, weight being that is normally in the 3000 pound range, theres a vid over on bikeland of a boosted 1000 I believe running a Supra on low boost, bike walks away till the supra goes to high boost... but yeah.. 350hp vs 1000hp? amazing what weight does...

I plan on a turbo, just waiting to see what the bike can and can't handle. I myself don't have the money or want to blow new shit up.. but my 2 cents

ugh a 350 rwhp bike should wax a 1500hp lambo. theres a video of a 800awhp gtr vs a gen 1 stock and the 14 beats it to 186 every time its a fair race.

Lambos are a whole different story my friend, they are walking away from 2kwhp supras, you'd more than 350 to keep up with them, Underground Racing don't play.

Like I said, They don't play around, and thats only a 1500whp lambo. Granted the bike beats him one race but they have 2kwhp ones... its stupid

that's why though I like to hear about the big HP numbers they don't make me buy a bike! You get used to 170 hp as easily as you get used to 190hp. Especially the guys who live in flat states. I used to want to max the bike out everywhere when I lived in NE. My uncle used to be fighter jet pilot, he lived in Germany for a while... you shoulda seen him on the autobahn maxing out his Beemer. The sad part is : he looked as if he was bored. If I get a turbo, I won't be able to enjoy regular bikes...
