The low side
05/26/12 9:37 AM

Within a 100 yards from my driveway after i shoved off
a car decided at the last second to make a left As I saw this car suddenly brake I also did the same
So cold tires, a bit hard on the front brake = low side
Bike is not destroyed looks like mainly cosmetic, will bring it to dealer to ensure I didn't miss anything
So my question is.... Should I report to insurance I have a 1k deductible as is and I'm sure the damage is close to that if not more
Think this mishap will raise the premiums if I report it, never had full coverage on a bike before so... Not sure

The sucks ass, hope you are ok as the bike can always be fixed. I think if the damage is close to your deductable, I wouldn't bother with the claim. You may be able to eBay some of the parts you need to keep the $$ down. Let us know what you need. Someone on here may have the hook up for discount OEM parts.

They shouldn't raise it for a minor thing like this especially since nothing and nobody else is involved. That being said if the damages are close to 1k, I would just fix it myself even if I have to get 1 piece at the time.

Sorry I didn't mention before.. Yeah I'm ok.. Just a little sore,,thanks
tell ya for the price of protective gear it's worth it, witnesses told me I slid close to a blocks length
Did not loose one bit of skin or any heavy bruising on the impact areas, just the hip where it slammed down on and had no pads or armor

In general how long can I wait to put in a claim after an accident
Like to try and price out the bits to see what the totals are

Ya...I'm with Romans and Drag here...no sense in 'taking a chance'..besides..having a bike like this...and reporting 'everything' that MAY not even be covered...IDK...none of their business really...it could snowball on ya later on ya know? They don't REALLY like these kinds of bikes to begin with...or any really.I'd stay quiet to them on this...and just get the stuff yourself. If it was like seriously major cash to fix it ...ya...maybe it would be worth reporting. This?I wouldn't.

DRag said...'they shouldn't raise"....I wouldn't think so...you wouldn't think so...but that company...they're there to make money,sad as that is.I've also got pretty full coverage...I wish I didn't have to really...but....it is what it is.I mean...how often is a bike(like ours) gonna catch on fire..ya know? I've never seen any posts about zx14 fires!(guess that'd be 'comprehensive',right?)

Just what IS the damage?

Off topic here...but...NOW the 750's and 1000's and 600's are out here...doin what they normally do.Going as fast as they can in the 35 zones...ridin wheelies and hittin speeds of at least 100mph around here.Great...just great All day....into the late evening hours as well.I think they must have scanners or something...they seem to know just when and where to get away with this stuff. And there's normally police cars cruising this whole area on a VERY regular basis.I've yet to see one of those guys get pulled over.Amazing.

RE: The low side

When I got her home before, I pulled the fairings to make sure the rad or pump didn't bust, it was just leak over from her laying down, left case cover ground down a bit but not through, but I don't think that's an oil side so not going to bother with it... Right now
with the confirmation of nothing busted and she's holding all her fluids, took her for a run a little later to make sure she tracks true and to see if there was any other thing out of whack
So from what I can notice everything seems in place mechanically, and decided to just piece her back together myself
And not claim it, either way I'm paying... As grn stated if it was more severe then without a doubt go through insurance (hopefully it doesn't get to that)

On a mission to find black left side pieces
Nose, Pitch fork, lower and upper fairing, mirror, clutch lever
bar end, fender, left can
So if anyone hears of anything plse let me know

Appreciate the replies and comments

No.. One corner is ground down, it's not hanging on by a thread
And possibly fly off, this and the nose is last on the priority list

Yeah very powerful set of brakes, to bad it was a cold tire
So the more I'm pondering why didn't they incorporate ABS ??
Didn't they have it on the previous gen or was that only euro models

RE: The low side

Kawasaki's response to the US buyers about having abs on the new 14 was...."there's not enough demand for it".That's their reason. Our 2012's actually ARE set up for abs...HOWEVER...we would need to install the power unit,Brake units and piping for it.The mounting holes and all are already in the frame. With the KTRC on there...PROBABLY some type of splitter as well for the braking signal to the abs.I would guess here...MAYBE...the next production run for the next years or so WILL have an 'option' for abs.Lots of guys DO want it.I'd go for it as well...why not?

I guess in the meantime..we'll just have to be alert and think ahead(not that anyone but that other driver was not thinking ahead)...and learn to apply our brakes in a safe fashion.I know....it's easy to be a monday morning QB....'you SHOULD have done this...blah blah blah"....You did what you did...no critcizing on this end.I'm just glad you're okay. These big bikes roll like they're on rails...but...at low speeds, and quick manuevering(braking and such)..they can get out of control VERY QUICKLY.There's a lot of weight moving around.I stay off my front brake exclusively whenever I'm just moving at a slow speed.Especially if I'm turning. You can drop this bike real fast in a u-turn or a parking lot situation rbefore ya can say...SH*$!That front brake can be yer worst enemy if ya don't play things right.(not that you didn't...things happen).

I know they wanted to stay hush about their new bike...naturally...but an owner survey would have been the thing to do ....a ways back before they ever planned the relaease date...something back like a year ago or something.

Don't report it to insurance, those mother fuckers get enough of your money... As long as you are not injured & the bike is just cosmetic, fix it & bite the bullet. Today I rode with shorts & t-shirt for the first time this year, then I read this. Thank you for reminding me the importance of wearing the correct gear! It sucks when it's hot but better than losing your skin & getting banged up badly. Glad your ok!

Yeah man wear the gear, being my blvd, is suprisingly smooth for NYC standards
No raised manhole covers, pot holes or good enough for gov,nt work asphalt patching, etc..
I slid pretty far, the bike even further,
Dude if I had on a t-shirt and shorts believe me I probably would of been admitted
Jacket (leather perf) ground down to the armor on the left arm and scuffing on the right arm and belly and side
Belt ground down, Kevlar pants (draggin)held up better than the leather (did feel it get hot)
Wish draggin would not use rivets I did get a nice cut from them..
Gloves(HELD) surprised they didn't hold up that well, fingers and palm
Opened up at seams on both gloves..... To bad these were the most comfortable gloves that I've ever had, but somewhat questioning the strength of the seams on the stitch

If you need parts or there is anything I can do to help please let me know, we are like 30 minutes away. My local dealer is a friend and does the right thing for me with parts and service. He is a dealer and has to make some $$$ but he is very fair with his prices, if you need anything I can get you numbers. Do your homework on prices so you know what shit should cost
