where to buy fairings
04/06/12 5:17 PM

I had to lay my bike down today...A 18 wheeler swerved over on me and in order for me not to hit a big ass f350 i had to lay her down and walk away with minor damage to the bike. Does anyone know where i can buy some quality fairings?

I dropped my 14 back in December. I needed the left side mirror, upper/middle/lower fairings and the Foreman grill, also the fender and screen. I made a thread asking for help on shopping around. Several replies offered the following...

Ron Ayers, Parts Shark, Bikebandit.
I was lucky with Bikebandit because they had a 10% off all OEM parts at the time. They have that special from time to time. ONE THING I FOUND INTERESTING was the prices changed during a two day period as I was still looking around. Most prices changed by just a few dollars but the upper fairing went from about $440 down to $250. Strange? Anyway, I went with BB and my timing was lucky. I think Ron Ayers sold the fender for about $130 instead of $170 but overall BB was a good deal.
For the upper, middle, lower left fairings, Foreman grill, fender, mirror and signal assembly, was $1,100 shipped. I bought a new Zero Gravity smoked screen again, $80.
Keep in mind you can find cheaper "OEM" parts such as Emgo but look HARD at them first. The mirrors for example are NOT identical to factory. Can't say how other makers parts will fit either. ALSO, you might want to replace all the foam pads that are inside the fairings. They are peel and stick. I screwed up and forgot about them. When my parts came I wanted to get right to it so I "saved" the foam pads by razor-blading them off and re-installed with some spray adhesive. Saved a few bucks and did a good job but it WAS a hassle.

I bought my fairings after I laid my ZX down from Bike Bandit also. I purchased the OEM because I wanted the midnight blue factory color. If it happens again I'll most likely repaint the tank and go with the much cheaper aftermarket ones.

I thought about trying to get them repaired but went with the much less hassle and just bought new ones.

I want to get my bike painted candy red anyway. If I can get my fairings repaired it wouldn't be aeal for me to buy oem fairings..

You DO realize that "laying it down" is not a way to avoid an accident. It IS an accident.

I am so sorry to hear all this, chev. I'm just checking the thread out now. It would be a lot of work to restore that to like new condition but it can be done. It looks like there are no holes or cracks......then you pretty much have a sand and repaint job. I'd see what kind of rattle can primer and top coat you can find. OEM paint from coloright is expensive. Prolly cost almost as much as a pro paint job or a new set of fairings. 34 bucks a can. I'm sure it would take at least 4 cans of color to do the whole bike.....which you might as well do so it all matches. You would need primer and clearcoat too. Need to get the Kawi red color you wanted if you decide to go with that.

sucks man. Even if you replace, I would hold onto those cosmetically damaged fairings and make a second suit for your baby. Never know when you might need a change. Personally, I would make a set of race fairings out of them w/o lights, mold yourself some covers out of fiberglass to fill the light holes. Could be very cool and you would drop close to 10 lbs w/o lights and mirrors.

glad you saved you kneck. Look at the bike. Not too bad considering. No internal damage? You must have rashed up a bar end, and lever and mirror. Tank dent? busted shshift lever? foot peg? What is the list of injuries?

I see a cool, modded up bike coming out of this.

@Maddevill i had three options
1. jam the breaks and avoid being hit by the truck and let the car behind slam into the back of me and push me into the truck
2. take my chances and ride the center line between a log truck and a big ass ford hauling a wide load.
3. Lay my baby Janet down and let her slide and suffer minor damage

@rook
when i picked her up she wouldnt start again. I had to turn the ignition off the she started right up . thanks to the good breaks i had time to slow down before i let her slide off the road onto gravel. Another thing that helped the fall was the folding mirrors, That softened it up a little and prevented them from breaking off. The rear pegs was down so that also helped.
Im trying to make a list of things im going to do to her. First thing im going to do is paint and put some chrome on her. I was thinking about painting the bike candy red with the red swingarm 3" over and with candy yellow break calipers,front sprocket cover and clutch cover, and dash/ram air covers. Polished break rotors...
Adjustable lowering links and custom grips and levers. 200mm tire. Custom seat to match the bike.

If i dont go the red and yellow route im just going to do everything red and chrome...but not to much. The only thing im not set on is my exhaust, the cannon or alien head......Oh and before i forget im getting the 1450 kit from CNC this winter.

here is the red im going with

I think Maddevil was just being an ass --NO! I mean he was just poking fun. I bet he has had a bike or two down in his day. most of us have. Mine was otipped over after I owned it just a few days. ...and I wasn't even riding it, I was getting off and forgot to put the stand down.

when i picked her up she wouldnt start again. I had to turn the ignition off the she started right up .

ya no biggy, that was just the tip over sensor doing its thing just as it should --LOL at least you know yours works. Mine ran for a few seconds before it shut off.

WOW, sounds like that candy red is going to be more than appropriate on that eye candy!! LOL---love that color sample but WTF is that a picture of?? is that a bedpan or something? LOL
