So I have this RV I'm fixing up but I want to trailer my bikes behind it. I purchased one of the last el cheapo trailer kits where $200 gets you an axle, hubs, 1090lb springs, lights/wiring, hardware and a bunch of steel struts that can be replaced with 2in square tubing from the iron supplier. I had done this for my first trailer which was a little 40X48 incher I got from Meijers(grocery store in my area) for about the same amount, and over the years it has turned into a big mobile home axled flat bed I tow my buggy around on.
Well now it's too tall for my bikes as well as heavy so I'm a gonna weld up a new one.
So I plan on using this kit; cut the axle and weld in 12inches more width while beefing it up at the same time, maybe replace springs with 2000# units for $30, weld up a new 5 x 8 foot deck out of 2in square tubing and some smaller for reinforcement, and then a deck (prolly wood) with some sort of system for tieing down. I spent nearly $60 on heavy iron channel intending for the tires to ride through them and just skip the deck and keep the trailer light. But after getting them home and some closer inspection of my bike I realized I was hasty and they weren't wide enough for my tires and they gonna actually be heavy as hell because I was gonna have three rails. Back to the drawing board and a wood deck of some sort but there was still the problem of how to strap down the front end. Well I've never been a fan of ratchet straps on front forks, so I started looking at some pictures of the Condor front wheel stand so maybe I could fab one up for myself. Then I started to check out prices for them to see if it was cost effective. They are generally close to $200 a peice.
Low and behold I find a website that is selling them for a little more than a trip to Taco Bell with your girl and her mom! I ordered two. Now, I don't want to say where I got them from because I don't want to play with anyone's emotions as I'm expecting an email from them saying, "sorry, Bub, we had the wrong price up there, here's your money back" and then everyone would be mad at muwha. But if I get them I will share. And this may help someone else needing something nice who can't afford it, like muwha! lol
With this I will be able to neatly carry both my sportbikes in safety and style behind 'Chitty chitty bang bang'! Yes, my wife named the RV. Isn't that just awesome.... ugh
