Bright Lights
01/13/14 4:50 PM

Okay, just got finished my DDM Tuning Hid install (35W - 5000K). They arrived straight from China without instructions, but thanks to forum searches the install went well. I took a blast and don't think there will be any beam adjustments needed. Flash 2 pass is working and I'am happy!

If you don't mind, how much did the Chinese HIDs cost? They look very nice BTW!

Cornelius, the company is DDM Tuning out of California. Mine shipped from China, they must have been out of inventory in CA. They ended up being $22.50 per HID, $90.00 total w/lifetime warranty.

Ordered T-10 red LED bulbs for markers. I'll see what they look like, maybe give the front that evil look.

Red marker lamps would look sweet! Hopefully the man doesn't try messing with you over the red lamps!

Blackpearl, I almost went that direction because everything is built into slim ballast/igniter. I only chose DDM because I had one of their 8000K kits in a previous bike for 6 years with no problems. Coremoto kit would have taken some of the hassle out the install, less to hide.

Those lights look good.... and definitely on my radar.
So am I to understand those DDM's don't have slim ballasts?

Zx14beast, the DDM kits do have slim ballasts. My response to blackpearl was in reference to Coremoto kits which the ballast and igniter are built into one slim housing as opposed to DDMs separate ballast and igniter, (less to hide).
Those wheels set you out there, very nice!

Yup 8k. Still making adjustments. I wound up turning the lights in further towards the center. The light was bright enough to shine across the next lane to the side and into the woods, not to mention inside peoples cars. The light was a little too far to the sides with the stock settings. This made the pattern brighter in the center.

Up and down is tedious. Depending on weight and suspension settings. If you raise or lower your bike, you need to raise and lower the headlights. Do you ride more upright or lay on the tank? If you set the lights for highway blasting, the wind pushes the front down, thus the lights go down. Then if you are in town riding upright or leaned over, but not on the tank, the lights are shining higher and vice versa. Set the lights for riding in town and upright, then get on the highway and get some speed. The wind pushes the front of the bike down, then the lights point lower, sometimes too low. Its a happy medium.

The nice part is the beam cutoff at the top. They are not giant spotlights. I can set the lights to point at a certain distance on the trunk lid, and i know they will not shine any higher. The stock projector does a very good job at dispersing the light. Its not like the assholes that put HID's in the hondas and have this light shining all over, and its not two spot lights. The beam pattern is more of an upside down trapezoid. I need to lower my high beams, i never touched them. There is a gap between the high and low beam on the road. I haven't had the un settling need to turn on the high beams with the HIDs like a did with the stockers. I adjusted my stockers day 1. IF you leave the stock settings, the HID's will shine too high.

Here is a picture i found on the internet.

The right side is what you will have, except the highbeam will protrude further out. I have a gap right where the low beam ends, because my high beams are still on the stock ajustment. Probobly need 2 turns down.

Found aiming the lamps just a bit to the right(when on the bike)really helped to minimize people oncoming and getting zapped.Yet it allowed a nice pattern off to the left...

Fatsix, Grn14 thanks for info, I think I'am OK but that was residential streets on check ride. I'am going to take her out again tomorrow night and see if oncoming traffic flashes. I will also check the cars in front of me making sure they don't think it's a police spotlight behind them.

You don't need to wait for traffic flashes. If you can inside the back of the car, or inside the car of oncoming traffic, you need to fix them.
