hey
quick question for some of you that may be in an engineering related field:
for something to be lighter than air, does it have to have a mass? say you had an almost weightless container capable of withstanding an internal pressure/vacuum of -5x that of earths atmosphere. wouldnt it cause the object to float above air? im only a second year ME major but it just popped into my head n thought id ask around

I'm guessing no - because it would contain nothing lighter than air. The combined weight of virtually nothing inside and the mass of the container would be heavier than air.

But it might float if you filled it with helium.
