2012 idle speeds
10/23/12 4:35 PM

Hi all, i noticed on my 2012 when moving the idle is slightly higher and doesnt drop down to 1100rpm until bike comes to a complete stop, sometimes making it feel as if the bike is being pushed alone under braking when coming to a stop. Not sure if its the way the 2012 are set up with the new idle speed adjuster or if something is wrong ??? Anyone notice this?

When started cold, mine runs at 1,500, then after it warms a bit, it settles down to 1,000.

I always let it warm long enough to drop to 1,000 before taking off.

Hi
Mine has a slight idle surge since putting on the pipe which is a Muzzy full ti, w/ carbon can. I also put on a PCV and had it dynoed. I am assuming because it is an intermittent surge doesnt do it all the time, thatit is ok? it happens at idle and surges between 1100 and 1300 rpm. it was annoying, but I dont notice it anymore...

yes this is when bike is at operating temp, it will float above 1100... and drop a few seconds later.
i will pay more attention next time and see what rpm it floats at

1500 RPM ON COLD START-UP, THEN AFTER 30 SECOND WARM UP IT GOES TO ABOUT 1100 RPM......EACH TIME.

the idle is computer controlled. i never shift from neutral to first gear with the engine running, way too much of a CLUNK for me, instead i start it in first gear and then go from there.

Normal. If you sit on the bike (on a downward slope) with the engine idling in neutral and let the bike role forward the idle speed will inrease.

What a PITA!!!!! How do you go on in traffic? If the 1st gear clunk worried me that much the bike would have to go, no question!

Ya...holding the clutch would eliminate that alright.Stopping in 1st.Mine didn't clunk nearly as much as my 07....but it wasn't totally gone either.Much better than the earlier ones...I'll say that. You may have some luck switching oils...IDK what you're using now...but synthetic will definitely help with that deal.

Ya Grn, it does clunk when you put it in first, and I noticed that it shifts a little hard sometimes, but I am still breaking mine in, so I have regular Rotella in it, going to change the oil again real soon, got some 10-40 Castrol Motorcycle oil, going to full synthetic as soon as I think its a good time too

You can put that Full syn in there immediately....this motor at least allows for that.(as per the manual).I think as afr as shifting goes...this trans shifts better...much better at certain rpm speeds...you just need to find em.That's what it seemed like to me anyway.Course...I did a lot of clutchless shifts...so...that may make a difference,IDK.
