PR3's Installed
10/23/12 8:29 PM

My '09 I just picked up had the stock tires on it with 3800 miles. The tires seemed to be hard from age and I had to fight the bike to lean over. I had PR2's on a previous Hayabusa and based on what I'd read here I had a set of the PR3'a installed.

I only got to put about 120 miles on them today but these tires feel great so far. The handling is transformed and the stability is top notch. I'll check back in with mileage results.

We in Concours Owners Group (COG) are big fans of PR3s. I've seen reports of all kinds of mileage, and it seems to be directly related to how many highway miles you do and how hard you push it in the twisty stuff, both.

Like any tire.

But while they are wearing out, the grip in the rain and in the dry is excellant, and they do stand up to highway / city street riding really well.

I had a new pair when I rode from Maryland to Arkansas (NW corner, even) for the 2012 COG National Rally, and since that I have gone to New York and a few other places, so I have about 7,000 miles on mine, and I could still run them in the spring just fine.

Yes, I saw alot of that discussion. The ZX14 replaced my 09 Concours. I had gone with Angels on the Connie and got pretty good wear out of them but I wanted to try the PR3's after reading so much about them.

Got 4952 miles out of my OEM M-5's and went to a set of Pilot Road 3's. The bike now has 14110 miles on it and the 3's have 9158 on them. Great wet or dry tire and I should see 11 or 12K out of them. Just picked up another set to have on hand and I have gone to a 55 rear. About 3\8 inch higher and I think they will turn faster.

I highly recommend them. I have about 200 miles on them and they are great. The turn and tip in quick. They really compliment the 14. The PR3 are my weapon of choice from now on! I doubt I will get more than 6000 miles on them but we will see. I'm running 38/38 psi right now, it seems to be sweet spot for now.

Got 4000 on my set. Looks like they will make 8-9000 easy before I junk them for flat spotting. I will have to lower my rear ride height on the Penske as the turn is TOO much with the 1 3/4" raise I have now.
Did a 1800 mile loop through Montana last month and loved them in the mountains but disliked them on the flats or while sightseeing. Excellent wet grip here in rainy Western Washington. Better than the Dunlop RoadSmarts they replaced. Which are very good rain tires also.
We will see what they are like when I return to stockish ride heights. If still too twitchy on straights I'll be forced to go another direction, but will hate to give up the excellent wet grip.

if you have 9000 on them AND he can get to 11-12k, I should be able to get pass 6 easy! I rarely ride two up, and don't blast the straights like I used too. One thing that worries me is my chicken strips. I'm still getting used to the tires so I have 3/4 of an inch for a chicken strip in the back while the front has about a 1/4 of an inch. On all the different tires I have used it has been the opposite!!!!
