Idle adjustment
03/17/15 8:55 AM

Hey guys I just got my reflashed ECU in. Also have a full exhaust , idle speed seems a little low when it's warm. I've done some reading on the forum and they all say to adjust the idle speed a bit. One problem.... Where the hell is the adjustment on the 14!?? Lol. I'm looking around and see a few different potential adjustment screws and such. Anybody have a detailed location or maybe snap a pic pointing to it. Thank !

You have a 14R?...no idle adjustment.You say 'low'.How low?

The 14(pre 2012)has an idle adjustment screw on the left side covered by a rubber tube(black) with a knurled metal end on it.Kinda hangs down along the case there.Maybe a bit aft of the case before the swingarm pivot point.Right in there somewhere.

I should have specified sorry. Mines a 2008. So a 14. I think I know the line your talking about, looks like an overflow line with a can in it ?

And it prob gets to like 900-950 when warm. If I blip the throttle a little even after it's warmed up for awhile it stumbles or even stalls out at times. I'm trying to fix that !

Turbo, look down at the left side of the motor behind the cylinder. There is a black hose looking thing with a silver knurled knob at the end of it. It's usually clipped to an adjacent line but it could be dangling. That's the idle adjustment screw.

Raise your idle to 1100 rpms(warm). It won't stumble. You are letting it run through it's 'cold idle' cycle right? In cold idle it should be somewhat above the 1100 rpms..then drop to approx 1100.Do not adjust cold. You may experience a bit more 'clunk' when shifting from N to 1st with it at 1100.You can back that down to 1000.1000 seems to smooth the 'clunk' out some.

That sounds a little low. I think 1100 is stock. I've gone with 1000.

It's B.

Alright. Now I know where that is lol. And yea I let it run through its "high idle" stage first then let it drop down. Thanks for the help. I'll try that when I get a chance ! Thanks for bearing with me, this is only mh second season having the 14 so I don't know it like the back of my hand like I did my precious bikes yet

I ran the idle to that number so the wheel would not push me into the corners that high an idle. Take it for a good ride; 15 minutes or more. Be a little sporty with it to get some heat in it. Pull over to the side and let it idle. Take your time getting off, pulling off the gloves and now turn it up to 1,100 rpm.

No matter how it cold starts and idles high, leave it. Because it will return to idle as if you stopped on the side of the road and set the idle. No need to reset it for cold it's idling too high or you'll chase your tail, right?

Alright so I ran it for a good 15 minutes to get nice and warm. I can't ride here yet... Still salt and snow on the roads. But I adjusted the idle to 1100ish after warmed up and it sound healthier. We will have to see te next time I cold start and it runs through the complete high idle cycle.
